Ads Pyro dv card. (older one, but worked in last computer)

700 athlon, k7v (via w/ 4 in 1, so don't ask)

typical stuff... win 2k sp2

The problem I encounter is that whenever I connect the cam (it's a Canon XL1) to the "properly setup card", the ENTIRE system lags steadily for 1 second every 2 seconds. Obviously, it seems like it is trying to detect it or something, because it does this until I unplug the cam, and everything is restored to normal. Look here for example... it's geocities, you know what to do.)

Typically, it should list under device manager as "imaging device".

Once, a after messing with the cord a bit and restarting 5 times, it detected new hardware, assigned a dvcam.sys driver file to it, and disappeared, never to be seen again. Needless to say, in Premier 6, it can't "control" the device (cam).

help me out here guys, gimme a solution, cuz I'm just tired.

ok, just went to xp pro, and it doesn't hang anymore, it just doesnt rcognize it. Actually, it recognized it once, loaded drivers, and went into hiding again.

maybe the firewire port is bad?

My dad's 2 USB ports on his motherboard right. Well he would plug in his scandisk and try and copy over pictures well it would hang and lockup 98se. He would also lose the ports and everything. Then i did some trouble shooting. Come to find out the USB ports were bad. I gave my dad my usb hub and plugged it into the bad USB port and plugged in the power adapter and it works fine now.

WHen i say bad i mean not enough power is being supplied to the port. I bet that might be the problem with you perhaps.

Just an idea. I never heard of a firewire port [grrr i met hub, hub, hub... blah i wanna go home it's friday] though *shrugs*.

VIA (Cough)

You're not in the minority. 99% of users I see complaining about issues with USB / Firewire are using VIA-chipset based mainboards. The only thing you can do is install the latest 4-in-1 "fix" package, update your BIOS, install the latency patches, and pray.

try a different firewire card if you can. I'm betting the port is bad. if there is another one try that one. Probably still won't work if the card (if it is even a card?) is bad though. worth a shot however.

It's an older ADS Pyro1394.

It doesn't suck, it's old, but it worked in another system. I just don't get it...

Oh, and the cable is fine.
