Very low volume on my Headphones

GasX

Lifer
I have powered speakers and don't normaly have a problem getting sufficient volume on my sound, but this weekend I went to a LAN party and used my headset instead. It pissed me off because no matter what I did, I could not get the volume up to a good level. I don't remember this being a problem before...

I recently upgraded to Win XP if that might be a possible cause. The soundcard is a Monster MX300

Yes - I turned the volume up in the control panel
Yes - I tried both outputs on the soundcard
Yes - I turned up the volume on the headphones themselves

Any other suggestions outside of getting a new soundcard?

I know that powered speakers have a higher volume capability, but these headphones are plenty loud on other systems including my brother's PC which has MOBO onboard sound...
