Very Low Powered Computer with Sata

I'm looking for some sort of low powered computer than can run linux.

The system Needs to:
- have low power draw.
-I want at least 1 sata port, for a laptop drive. Although im considering using a large CF card or SD card.
-or if no sata USB and SD card support.

I was looking at the Beagle board but i cant seem to find a Sata add on card.
Also i was looking at other ARM based ITX boards non are cheap enough or don't have sata.

Any one know of a reality cheaper less than $300 US for all in one motherboard / system.


What i want the system to do is
-run a torrent client
-a web server
- basicly file sharing pretty dump torrents after they are complete.

use the least amount of power as possible

Currently i have a ATOM based board doing this. But im sure i can do it using less power.

Any ideas

Get a cheap/old laptop? That's what I'm doing with an old x22 thinkpad.

It's running as samba file server, web server, automatic torrent downloads and printer server. Probably draws 7-8W with the screen on and less power when the laptop is closed. It's also stackable.

What's wrong with your current atom? They draw like 30w peak or something, see if you can underclock it, but really anything else I could suggest would be an older EPIA with a sata add on card (my file/webserver has one, uses less than 15w loaded).

A Core 2 Solo chip should draw a bit more power than Atom, but the corresponding chipset should draw less than the 945GC they bundle with Atom. You should be able to get less total power draw overall, but the difference will be so small it'll make virtually no difference.

Are you serious? You're willing to spend $300 to use like, 10-20w less power at most?

With both CPU and GPU fully loaded 100%, the entire system with a notebook HDD drew only 18W compared to 38W of a standard Atom setup. Idle is 11W versus 27W.

It basically uses an Atom N270 instead of Atom 230. That is the mobile Atom, IIRC with 2.7W TDP versus 4W for the 230 and 8W for the dual core 330. The chipset is the mobile 945GSE. I'm not sure of its TDP, but the desktop 945GC TDP is 22W.

It has a built-in DC-DC power supply, so you just have to add a 12v power brick. It also has gigabit ethernet.

Logic Supply has it for $118. Add $21 for the power brick. They also have the case used in the SPCR review for $65.

Yes I'm willing to spend up to $300 looking at lower power than an atom and be left on 24-7 for ever.

I went from an Athlon 3500 to a Atom and my power usage and power bill went down.
Now id like to go to a lower powered system.

I would like a ARM based board but cant seem to find any that suit all my requirements.
Nothing is wrong with my atom. I'd like a lower power computer.

My atom board has a 945 chip-set, at the time there where no available with the mobile version. I have found one with a UL- chip-set that draws 3 watt but the cost is way to much.

I've looked at:
-Beagle board
-Gum stick PC
-A micro-tek board.

All these boards do what i want but lack a sata port....

Did you look into the Intel Atom board I mentioned above?

If you want to lower your power bill, turn off a light. Or turn up the temp of your fridge. Or turn up the ac/heat by 1-2 degrees. That saves a lot more electricity than anything you can do with your atom for $0


Hell turning down the brightness on your monitor probably saves more power
