Right now I'm running Vista 64 bit with 6 gigs of DDR2 RAM. Right now I'm running firefox and a few small time apps like google talk. Looking at my performance monitor is shows the following:

Total 6141
Cached 4865
Free 12

It is always like this, the only time it is not extremely low is when I just start my PC. It often drops to 0 and causes delays in opening things, etc. Is this a normal memory allocation or is their something wrong with my PC / Vista???

This is normal behavior and has been discussed ad nauseam. Do a search for Superfetch.

Vista loads up your RAM with stuff you normally use so it's ready when you need it. If you need the space for something else, it'll give it up.
In summary, Vista uses your RAM better.

I did do a search and found nothing on this particular topic. Sure their are mile long topics about RAM in general, but I couldn't find anything on this specific question.

Thanks for the replies.

That's how it should be.

And if you're getting delays in opening applications, it's certainly not due to Superfetch caching RAM.
Given time, Superfetch learns your user habits, caches bit of those applications, in order to speed up loading times (albeit not hugely noticeable).
