Very loud, high pitched whine/beep after new mobo/cpu install

...🙁

I just finished installing a Q6600 and Asus Maximus Formula. Put everything back together, plugged it in, and pressed the power button. All the mobo's lights came on and everything, but it's emitting a very high pitched, very loud whining/beeping noise, completely constant, almost loud enough to hurt your ears. In addition, my Zalman 9700 is apparently not working (the fan), even after I switched it to a different 3 pin plug.

Has anyone experienced anything remotely similar to this? I'm not talking about the low-volume hum emitted from some TVs or monitors, I'm talking about air raid-level volume here. I can't really pinpoint where the sound is coming from simply because it is so loud.

Thanks for any help,

Nick

Pull out your RAM and video card, and reseat them, making sure they're completely seated. I've never heard of anyone hearing a noise like you describe, coming from their motherboard, though.

I figured it out, I just overreacted. It was the PSU making the noise, as one of the power plugs on the 8800gtx wasn't seated properly. Probably the easiest connectors to spot in the entire case, and I overlooked it when doublechecking everything. Oh well, boots fine now🙂 Thanks for the help, too.
