very light + moderate cpu power laptop?

Howdy all,

I'm looking for a new laptop for my dad. He's gettin real close to 60 and the beheamoth of a laptop he's carrying around is (thankfully) starting to die. Does anybody have a good recomendation on a relatively cheap and very light laptop? All's he's gonna use if for is word processing, email, and maybe an occasional web browse or two.

But above all, it's gotta be light. Unfortunetly, the only things I've seen so far are the super expensive slimtops and vaio-like stuff that are waaay over my budget.

Don't they make slow slimtops for chrissakes?

Have a look at the Toshiba Portege 3100. Pentium MMX 300MHz. Very thin and light. Performs well.
