Very Last Palomino - 2200+

The equivalent of the 1.4Ghz Thunderbird, only even less overclockable. I have to say though...I'm quite surprised AMD was able to eek out 1.8Gz from a 10-12 stage processor...

I hate to see how much heat it puts out though, very powerfull but overall not very efficient

Got to hand it to AMD. Who would have thought they would get 1.8ghz out of the Athlon core on the .18 process? A very well designed cpu.

They probably rushed it out to combat the 2.4 GHz Northwood. If they did this it probably means that the Thoroughbred won't come out as early as they'd like.

jeez intel got to 2.0 ghz on the .18 micron process with a 20 stage pipeline
and amd made it to 1.8 ghz on the same size process with a pipeline half as long that really is incredible.
I wonder how high intel could have made the p4 go on .18 micron

If you look at how long it took them to get the Athy clocked this high its not that unimagineable. They made the Athlon to be scaleable just like Intel did with the P4. The slot-a athlon was there PI, the T-Bird was their PII and the XP is their PIII.
