VERY laggy performance in games

ok, i now another problem. i play counter-strike and max payne at 1024x768 85hz (and most games for that matter). everything was fine yesterday. all games were performing nicely on my geforce2 ultra and now, im getting extremely laggy performance for no reason. everything is updated, latest detonator drivers, latest direct x and everything and i didnt change anything since yesterday. can anyone help? im really getting sick of this. thanks! -davo
 
Look at your Display Properties. Look through everything, especially under the "Advanced".

Make sure anti-aliasing is turned off and NOT configured to be set automatically (it's the biggest performance killer, but looks very nice), look at texture bit depth (16 or 32) and so forth. Maybe the drivers reset your configuration?
 
nope, everything is set normally. i usually have 4x anti aliasing on and it doesnt affect performance at all really. i turned all of it off and its still laggy
