Very interesting, informative read about poisonous mushrooms, etc.

I love mushrooms on my pizza and burgers
Very highbrow.

I hardly every buy them anymore. My fave market has a super wide variety, just dozens. It's so rainy now, I could go up in the hills and shag some. Would pull out my copy of Mushrooms Demystified before I'd consider eating any of them, though.

Interesting read the link in the OP. Fungi have been considered their own kingdom since 1968. They have more in common genetically with animals than plants, surprisingly.

I like mushrooms that make you see things @.@

edit:
Could the article be any more melodramatic? They make it sound like mushrooms are marching through the night, and knifing people in their sleep. The cardinal rule of mushroom hunting is "If you don't know what you're doing, don't".

Interesting article, thanks OP. The story about people serving poisonous mushrooms at a cookout was a little freaky. I've always avoided mushrooms outside of the store because the risk simply isn't worth it.

I didn't take it that way. Probably because I was already pretty knowledgeable about fungi and the type of people who are fascinated with hunting for species of living organisms.

As stated, if you don't know what you're doing, avoid eating wild mushrooms. However, the book I mentioned makes it quite possible to be very sure of yourself. Some species are very distinctive and safe, delicious too. Some eminently edible resemble some poisonous species, and the book I cited (Mushrooms Demystified, probably many others) tells you how to distinguish them. Sometimes you really need to get a spore print, note its color.
