Very Interesting Article on System/CPU Power Usage and Performance

Since DC computers usually run at 100%, the energy used at "idle" is not of any interest to me. 😛 😀

During the current (and most likely future) times of high energy costs, the $ per DC work unit would interesting. I don't know what tool we could use that would be the most accurate across the DC realm but for BOINC it would seem you could divide a system's RAC by the cost of operation to determine the most $ efficient DC system. Has anyone already done this?

Can't we just build wind & solar farms to power more rigs?😀

Btw I've got a mains power meter if you want me to run any tests on my ageing XPM rig? (it uses 185w at 100% load inccidently!)

I just got a kill-a-watt so i'm going to start testing my mahcines to see what I come up with. Most of mine are comprimes of barton's and thoroughbred's w/ a couple palermos and a some sempron. But i did just buy a 65W 3800+ which i'm going to run on a Tforece. It'll be intesteing to see how it fair's w/ their numbers.

I shouldn't have read that article. It was a very interesting read, particularly the cost per work done on the AM2 (ADD) 3800+, but now I want a new AM2 dual core system even more than I wanted it before, and I still can't afford to build a new system any time soon... 😛

Well if you want the SSF EE cpu, you're in luck b/c they really aren't available for retail yet even though AMD did a paper release several months ago. But the 65W EE version is ready for enjoyment 🙂

Nice new rig😎

Btw my XPM 2500 rig runs at 2.5GHz ,has 2xHDDs ,FDD,1xDVDRW,1GB RAM ,Radeaon 9700 Pro,1xNIC (+1 onboard) ,Antec TPII 430 PSU,2x80mm fans & a 92mm fan.

My 2nd rig ,a S754 Sempron 3100 @2.5GHz ,has 1xHDD,1xCDRW,FDD,GF4 Ti4200,512MB RAM ,ColoursIT 500w PSU,1xNIC ,1x120mm ,1x80mm fan & CPU fan(70mm?).
This rig draws just 120w running DPAD (or SETI),so it draws about 1/3 less power & its about 15% faster at DPAD too! (I'll be swapping mbrds & CPUs over at some point 😉).
I'm going to get a better HSF for this rig & I'm hoping I'll get a slightly better overclock 🙂
