I have to say, i'm very impressed with Dues Ex Human Revolution and would certainly recommend it to people. Initially when first run i thought it looked cheap, old and a bit rubbish. But a little bit of faffing it doesn't look too bad (although not great). The game mechanics aren't perfect either, did seem bad. Once you get in to it though it really grows.

The perceived sense of freedom is great. Can choose how to approach all the many different objectives that you accrue from speaking to different people. You can sneak, hack, shoot, or all three. Can fully explore facilities without just having one option, like when I keep turning max Payne 3 off mad.

Only big downside is the boss fights, sort of ruin it, but bearable.

The augmentations, basically human upgrades allow you to tailor your character, and the inventory system is quite good. The hubs, basically bits of city you can freely explore, are great and between them, the brilliant story, fantastic buildings and general atmosphere it's very good.

I didn't see many people talking about this so thought i'd give it a mention. Got it for £4.99 from steam! Not sure in which order the game was developed, but it seems a far cry from all the console ports i've been playing, the openness seems like a real old school PC game.
 
My bad. I honestly didn't realize it was that old.

If you have not yet got around to playing Human revolution, or are on the fence, then definitely go and do so!

You mean Deus Ex 3?

I played it for a day. Went back to Deus Ex 1.

Square tried to hard to WOW! me when they should have just made a decent game.
 
waste of money for me. it crashed constantly on day 1. today, with all new upgraded hardware, drivers..etc. it still crashes on me.
100% unplayable. even tried it in Windows 8, same thing. DE 1 works fantastic however.
 
The in game ads are what pissed me off. I won't support game companies who are putting up ads in your face...
 
Namir basically "sent" you to the hospital at the beginning of the game, taunted and tried to kill you since, eventually getting his chance when a duel was staged, during which he again taunts and tries to kill you yet he spends his last breath talking to you about love? The other boss battles sucked too and IIIRC, SE later said that boss battles were outsourced.
Personally, I didn't mind the ads, they appeared where they normally would in real life too. Don't really care if any in game ads are fictional or actually paid for, I guess today's AXE ads appearing in the future isn't too immersion breaking, the brand will likely live forever anyway.
The game was awesome in stretches but should have been larger.

i really enjoyed the game. used the sniper A LOT and got addicted to praxis points! i had to find get them all and unlock all the skillzzz~~~

really fun game.
 
Wouldn't it be fun if there was an option in the game where say you could play through the game as normal, but instead of playing against dumb A.I., the enemies were actual players and chose to play as a bad guy in someone's game. Would certainly add to the realism.
i really hate how A.I. has this hear, see and forget approach. they see you and attack but give up when they don't see you for a while when all you did was hide behind another box. stupid
 
I just finished it. It is a great game and very reminiscent of the original. I really liked the Deus Ex easter eggs. You should definitely play on the hardest difficulty.
 
It's an excellent game let down by a pretty lame ending.

But overall it's worthy of Deus Ex...unlike Invisible War which sucked.
 
why so hard on IW? sure the engine kinda sucked, same one used in Thief 3, capable of good graphics but had small loading areas. But IW had multiple ways to achieve goals, decent story.
DE1 may have had some larger environments, but they were bland and devoid of much detail as most were for their time.
i think IW was a worthy successor, they just didn't seem to pick a very good engine or perhaps made great use of it.
 
I played the original at release and HR just a month ago. Thought it was pretty good. Although some aspects of the game disappointed me, like some of your choices made no difference.

Deus Ex 1 had all the detail you needed to play the game. Nothing extra. Deus Ex 3 has so much crap they had to put a focus highlight on your hud.
 
Honestly, I am having a hard time getting into it. Granted, paid 8 bucks for but still. Game mechanics are odd for me too.
 
It's the most atmospheric game I've played since Vampire: TM: Bloodlines. The detail in the settings, the music, everything was awesome. I really enjoyed playing in that world.

The game mechanics got a little boring and repetitive for me towards the end. Not much variety in the types of enemies/situations you have to deal with. But I played it all the way through and I almost never finish games like this. It was one of my favorite games of last year for sure.
