I finished buildt my 1600+ box tonight, but checking the CPU temp, it is saying 58 degrees...Isn't that kinda high...some other guy said that his runs at 44 degrees under load

system temp is 31 degrees. I need to check it again, but it said 58 in the mobo monitor. I have a GA-7vtxe with the heatsink that came with the retail 1600+ (I put it on well, but I only used the thermal pad on the thing)

I have seen people claim to have an air cooled XP1600+ or better at 32C or a few degrees above ambient case temp. In other words, don't place too much value on what other socket thermistor readings say. You might flash your bios and see the reported cpu temp drop 10 degrees.

Did you use a thermal pad or grease, if so what kind?

I wouldn't be too worried if you're stable. That temp IS hot, but the retail heatsinks are cheapos.. just enough to get ya by. You could try taking it off, putting some Arctic Silver II on it, or checkin' around for a higher performing heatsink. Having good airflow in the case can help as well.

That temp is mighty high, but if ou're stable and using a retail hs...you oughta be ok. See if you can set your mobo to turn your PC off at like, 65-70C if ya wanna be safe.

thats alittle high but the temp should drop in alittle while when i first put mine togeather i was getting like 52c now its down to 41 i think you just need alittle time to get things seated right meaning the pad fused to the cpu

Well, the heatsink that comes with the processor has a thermal pad. I just used that because a) it didnt say to put anything else on, though I was thinking of using antec reference...b) my friend said he didnt use any on his...c) I asked in other threads, and one guy said he did the same thing and just used the included thermal pad

I mean I check this RIGHT after the first power up ever for this computer, so Cdnmade might be right...I bet it will just take a bit

ADDITION: I also have an Enlight 7237OX3CA and I liked the design. One thing, though, is that the included fan is in the front and there are small holes up there...do you think I should move it to the back under the PS...the air coming out of the PS is a bit warm

no tape on the thermal pad?

may take a while for chemical reaction in pad to take place needs a good amount of heat to melt

I am installing XP now and I had just installed Linux, but I dont have my good video card yet, so I was using a very old one and the Linux display was messed up, so i am installing XP. I havent check the temp for a long time, and a lot of processing has been going on, so this will be a good test.

ADDITION: Oh yeah...also, my HDD LED and POWER LED arent on...hmmm Isnt the power switch one of the plugs too? I dont get why only those arent working

For your HDD and POWER LED, make sure that the plugs for the LEDs that insert into the motherboard are plugged in the right way. Sometimes you need the words on those thin little plugs to point up and sometimes you need them to point down for the LEDs to work.

Yeah i have just figured that out...it was confusing...my CPU is down to around 49 to 51 Celsius...I moved the front fan to the back

Make sure case fan is blowing same direction as power supply fan (either into case or more commonly out back of case). And is your case closed up? My temp dropped 4-5 degrees when I knew everything was working and I closed up my case.

maybe case air flow but my bet is the heatsink and thermal pad. i am useing a alpha 8045 heatsink on a 1800+ and its sitting here idleing at 34c on a Abit board.

Go GET this utility Look here It dropped my temps to 36C
There is a hack way to do itm but CPU Cool works and is cheap to buy. Download the program and try before you buy.

How high is too high? It is at 50 now, but I havent been able to test it under load...I dont have a good video card right now and I cant put an OS on it...I am just checking via BIOS...

If you had messed around with the motherboard jumpers, set them back to default. The motherboard should detect the cpu's speed, and adjust everything automotically. I had messed around with the jumpers and then when i was told to put it back to default, I got the same clocked frequency of 1.33ghz, but with 10 degrees less than when I had messed w/ the jumpers.

Well, the only jumper there was for setting the FSB to 133 which is what I must have it at for the 1600+...what jumpers did you switch? There arent any others on my mobo (GA-7vtxe)

I did have to switch the jumpers for 133 FSB, but I also switched the multiplier jumpers (which you state you don't have). So I'm all out of ideas... check if your heatsink is setup correctly.
