EKKC, I too am downloading all the time, an ViaTalk VOIP has not degraded my downloads at all. Bandwidth use is negligible - think about it, a 128kbps MP3 is only about 16K/second, and I bet Voip audio is closer to 64kbps, so at most we're probably talking about 8-10 kilobytes/second. As far as whether VoIP that is provided by an ISP uses a seperate channel of bandwidth, I am not sure, but somehow I doubt it since it goes through your cable modem and your cable modem has been capped at a certain speed. Plus, since the voice bandwidth is negligible, I'd be surprised if the ISP alloted extra bandwidth for the VoIP. So, to answer your question, I have downloads going constantly, and call quality has always been fine, and I have noticed no impact on my 3Mbps download speed.

I am going to sign up for this, I ordered sunrocket like two days ago haha and my gizmo didn't even arrive yet.

Just a word of warning however:
Customers who order a prepaid service plan understand that service is prepaid and that if a cancellation request is received during the prepaid term, we will calculate the amount of any unused service fee prepayment and a refund will be issued for such prepayment less a 50% early cancellation penalty and any fees associated with our return policy.

Good news: There is a 14 Day Money Back Guarantee.
Bad news: there is a penalty for cancelling early, 50% of unused prepaid amount. So if you decide to cancel at the end of the firt 6 months, you'll only get ~$50.

I didn't see any code required or anything. I went through with it anyway. I guess the free month doesn't show up until later? I dunno... :-/

Go to the Control Panel, look on the left side under Package Overview, and check your Next Due date. It should be 2 years out.

I can't log in. When I tried my name and the password I would normally use (I don't remember creating a password though) it failed. When I tried to have my password sent to my Email address I got this:

"WARNING: Your email address could not be found and your access from x.x.x.x has been logged."

Maybe my order isn't processed yet? The link in my Email for status just has a green check next to 'Order Placed'. There's red X's next to Invoice Not Billed, Number Not Acquired, and Order Not Shipped.

Um, what is with Viatalk's customer service wait times? Yesterday it was 26 minutes before I got to speak to a CSR. Right now I'm on hold 13 minutes now and I'm still 27th in line! :Q

If this is SOP at Viatalk I'm going to be very skeptical of their service for the first 14 day trial period as in it better work out of the box and be trouble free. I'm not waiting 30+ minutes for support.

Update: 22 minutes - 24th in line

Update: 35 minutes - 8th in line

Update: 45 minutes - 7th in line

Update: 57 minutes - Success!

Long wait time but tech support easy to deal with and understand (hint, hint SunRocket ;) ). For an extra $2/month you get priority support. Hopefully don't need it but it's a cheap option if calling a CSR is a regular deal.

I think ViaTalk is in demand especially with their special going on.

I ordered last night and they say it needs 24 hours for them to verify our billing info. Robor, I'm in the same boat as you are and it simply means it's in the system and awaiting processing by their staff.

As far as rest of it go, do we get to choose a phone number like with SunRocket or are we assigned one?

I am about ready to jump on this.

The only thing that I'm concerned about is that I'm getting an Alarm system, that needs to be able to call out to ADT if the alarm is triggered. I wouldn't want to get VOIP, if I also have to buy a "landline" to work with the security system.

Anyone know if an alarm system is compatible with VOIP?

Thanks in advance!

When you signed up there was an option to port a number or have one assigned. I think if you don't choose to port you're going to get one of their choosing.

Well, I hope they give me a good number. We signed up for SunRocket's 199 deal two days before ViaTalk's 199/2 year deal and SunRocket allowed us to choose a great number. I guess if the number just plain sucks than I can just request a refund within 14 days.

Been about 18 hours, also sent sales an email last night with a question about my order. No replies yet.

I hope someone can address this for me before Midnight Eastern because I do want to order this. Their phone cue is up to 33 right now and being I have a cell phone I don't wanna drain all my minutes (lol..which is partly why I want this service so much).

My dilemma though is that where I live currently, it doesn't appear they have service which is surprising (I'm in the Central Valley of CA near Modesto). There are several areas somewhat closeby (obviously Sacramento and parts of the Bay area), but nothing extremely close.

I'm moving to Lexington, KY within the next month or two and would like my phone number to reflect that area code.

How would I go about setting this up? Sign up as if I were in Lexington already and hope that the service will work in my current area in the meantime? Help!!

Anyone know what an additional # cost is? ViaTalk mentions $4/month for another line with a new Area Code, I just need another line to call into while someone is home talking on the main line...same $4? If anyone knows pls. confirm..

I'm sort of in the same position as you. I'm moving in a few months, but want to jump in on this deal. I spoke with a CSR yesterday afternoon.

My city wasn't listed on their availability list, but he said not to worry. As long as you have a broadband connection, it should work. However, if you pick a city closest to your town, your phone number will be associated with that city. For example, if you chose Sacramento, when people your number, it'll mean they're calling a number in Sacramento, and they'll pay whatever long distance charges applicable to calling that city.

If you're going to move, and you want to change to a KY number, it'll cost $10.

Cool, thats the answer I was hoping to hear. I don't plan on using the phone very much except to make some outgoing calls so I think I'll just opt for the Kentucky number in the first place. Thanks

There shortly is a long time.

Need these questions answered:
What is involved in switching my Vonage service?
Can I keep my current phone number (410)877-XXXX?
How long does it take to switchover, and will there be any interuption in service?
If I switch over do I need a new VOIP adapter, currently using an LinkSys RT312P2?
If so where do I get adapter?

Any chance they might extend the special offer?

Wait times are way too long?

You can sign up online. If you don't like it, you can get full refund before 14 days are up.

Too late now bud.

I ordered at around 11pm yesterday (well technically two days ago night of 24th). I sent them a question about an hour later via ticket. They responded to my question in about 18 hours and they did not make their 'verifying the order in 24 hours' statement which I was disappointed with.

Hope their service is better than their sales team.

They ended it at Midnight 4/26 (not really the full day). Apparently they had such a huge response, that they ended it earlier that originally expected.

Just spoke with a CSR after almost an hour on hold. They received a lot of sign-ups, so he said expect the processing to take around a week. :Q

As long as the 14 day trial period doesn't start until we recieve the equipment, then I'm fine with that.

In their defense, it can be hard to gauge the response to promotions. I'll be judging them more once I receive and try out the service.

Agree 100% in both. I did get to speak to a CSR after a long hold. He said to please be patient.

I hope this (obviously unexpected) response doesn't degrade what I understand is a good service.

A few answers for you...

1) Sign up with Viatalk. Tell them you want to port your Vonage number. Wait until the number is ported. Cancel your Vonage service.
2) Not sure, check here: Text.
3) Porting a number takes 1 - 3 weeks usually. You would keep your Vonage service until the port is complete, so there won't be any interruptions.
4) Not sure about that. Viatalk ships the Linksys PAP2.
5) The adapter is shipped to you by Viatalk. There is no cost for the device, but I think that they charge $10 for shipping.
