hey guys,

well i just got a barton 2800+, an epox 8rda+, and 512MB of corsair xms ddr400 last weekend. i've been trying to overclock my system all week. at first i wasn't able to get anything really special and it was very unstable. after about a week of burning in my proc i am now at 2.4GHz and very stable. I have my front side clock at 200MHz. My temps after countless loops of sisoft sandra is 40C max. here is exactly how i did it and some pointers for people with my mobo and proc.
first off with my experience...burning in the chip was very helpful, and trying to max your cpu right out of the box was not very nice:). i used sisoft sandra 2002 pro's burn in utility to do all my burn-in bnechmarks. as i was doing this over the course of the week my temperatures went down and also stabilized. you really don't need to give the bartons a lot of extra juice, but you really need to lower your multiplier some. the stock multiplier is 12.5 and stock voltage is 1.65V. in order to reach 200MHz front side Clock, you need to do the voltage mod to the northbridge on the 8rda+. you can go to www.8rdafaq.com and find out exactly how its done. my new Vdd is 1.85V. You definately need better cooling with the volt mod. vantec has a fan that fits right on the nforce2 chipset. you should get a heat sink for the southbridge also cause it gets pretty damn hot. anyways now on to the overclocks and settings.
My first overclock was at 2.2GHz, only about 120MHz more, but i had my front side clock to 200. for that overclock i had the Vcore on default, multi was 11, and my proc setting was at aggressive. my mem voltage was at 2.66, but my timings were high. they were 8 3 3 2.5. this proved to be totally stable with countless burn in and benchmark tests with sisoft, 3dmark, and pcmark2002. also with stock core voltage and fsb of 400 i could not go higher than a multi of 11. One thing that i did that proved to be very helpful for my motherboard was i took out the jclock jumper pin located to the southern left corner of the CPU socket. I was able to go faster with that removed. now i was was able to overclock to 2.3Ghz. my settings are the following...FSB 200MHz, multi 11.5, cpu was set at optimal, memory timings were 6,2,2,2, i also have my agp apature size at 256MB, and i disabled my fast write, my Vcore was 1.75, agp voltage was 1.6, my memory voltage was 2.9. this was totally stable. you need the extra voltage to your memory for stability i found. the temps were under 37C still. so i upped it more. by the way i'm using a slk-800 heatsink and a thermaltake fan thats loud as hell but very cooler friendly. with a chieftec case. i think its a good cooling set up if you want to try it. i then overclocked the chip to 2.41GHz which is where i;m at now. all the settings are the same as before exept my multi was 12 and i had to up my Vcore to 1.85. when i would boot my computer, it would restart if the temps were any lower and when i benchmarked the system with the temps any lower than 1.85 it would send me back into windows. just to let the noobs know if your system can't boot windows and keeps re starting, or if you get kicked out of a benchmark program...chances are you should up your Vcore a little. (.025 at a time). i did .025 increments from 1.75 to 1.85V. sorry for the length of this...but i know if i had this when i was trying to overclock last weekend it would have helped me a lot. my scores are the following i hope there considered good :) 3Dmark03 cpu score is 697 while my total score is 5301. PCmark02 cpu 7445, mem 6547, HD 1202. i think my 3dmark is a little low but can you guys tell me what your getting. my videocard is a 9700 pro. not overclocked. i hope this helps someone.

How easy was your VDD mod? I'm thinking about doing it on my 8RDA+, since my VDD voltage is about 1.58v and seems to be keeping me under 200Mhz FSB (currently at 12x195Mhz with my Barton 2500+). I was planning on trying the "Jumper" trick and adding some cooling on the North Bridge first, but didn't want to do the VDD mod unless I really had to since knowing my luck I'd probably screw it up.

it wasn't very diffiecult.

you just need some knowledge in electronics and some idea on how to soder wires.

check out www.8rdafaq.com
very useful information on our mobos.
tells you how to do the mod too.

good luck

i dotn understand all ur modding, should have baught a 2500+ barton and set it up to 2.3 ghz right off no mods, then with ur mods and whatnot u could prolly have hit 2.4 or 2.5 ghz with ease

what do you mean all my modding???????

all i modded was my northbridge voltage, and guess what...even with the barton 2500 i still would have had to mod it to hit 200 FSB. know what i mean??;)
