I apologize if you have seen this before (I did a search and didn't find it posted already) but I thought some of you might enjoy this pictorial "resignation letter" that makes very creative use of layered/combined photos.

Sorry about that. I didn't realize I messed up the link. It's fixed now for the REALLY lazy ones that don't even want to read the second post.. ;)

I thought that was a cool idea and started playing with some of those ideas myself tonight.

awesome idea, you should try some different angles and positions

I'm going to do one later of me playing poker against myself.

I also have a shutter release with built in timer coming, today I hope! If that comes in, I'm headed down to the Detroit Institute of Arts. I can set the timer up to take a picture every 5 seconds or so, so I'd love to throw my camera in the corner on a minitripod and have it do a series of pictures I can blend of me looking at all of the pictures in the gallery. We'll see if I can pull it off b/c tripods are not allowed, but the one I plan to try to use is 18 inches tall.

camera on tripod, turn on the timer, take photos

import to PS And then start moving layer by layer the areas where you were standing to reveal yourself on the other layers? That is my guess

Yep.

Thats exactly how I did it. Put the camera on a tripod so it doesnt move. Hit the button to start the timer and then run into place for your different images. Then layer them all in photoshop and start erasing the parts of the layers that don't contain the subject. When done you have yourself in multiple places in the picture.

I just got this in the mail, so it should help with this effect :)

I love poker. just curious though who won?

The one in pink. The other two were drunk so they thought they were bluffing but they were actually holding their cards backwards. :D

Thats the design on the back of the cards :p I'm finishing taking pictures right now for a new set called Dinner and a Movie! :)

I know, but I thought it made for a good story considering the pink shirt is drinking Coke and the other two have booze. :)

Dinner and a movie sounds fun. I really want to do something like this with my girls at the park but I don't have Photoshop and I don't have any idea how (or if) I can do it with Gimp. :p

You can do it with gimp. Its really easy. Mount a camera on a tripod and take 5 pictures while making sure the camera never moves. Make sure your subject is in different parts of the picture.

Now add all 5 pictures together in one file, all on separate layers. Using the erase tool, erase parts of each of the layers until you can see your subject in all 5 places.

Flatten, save for web, and you're done!

I typically take 5 pictures in each pose to make sure I get one good one.

I decided to try it out with a couple of pictures I took last summer. I didn't notice until now that my lens had a smudge on the left side that blurred things a little, but fortunately it didn't affect the parts with the girls. I think this turned out rather well for my first attempt. I'll give it another shot as soon as I have a chance to get some pictures. :)

Nice! See! Easy :) Now you just need to get them in more places.

I thought this was really cool, so I showed it to my son.

"That's cool. You can do that using video pretty easily, too. The software is Avid Express Pro HD."

So, if anyone was wondering, "can I do this with video too?" apparently, the answer is yes. Still, I loved the poker pic, nice job, Gobadgrs.

Oh, and Fardringle... what a great idea to turn a child into twins. Then, when the kid is 10 years old and misbehaving, "you don't want us to do to you what we did to your twin, do you?" "I don't have a twin." "Not any more you don't." :p (j/k)

doing it with video is a bit more complex, I have done it with Sony Vegas 7, but I can't figure out if you can cut just part of the frames. I basically had to slice 2 together with a mask down the middle. I'd love to be able to do it how they do in hollywood and make a video of me fighting myself or something stupid :)
