very efficient, but quiet AMD cpu fan

ok, i'm gonna get Athlon Xp 2500 in day or 2, now i still have to decide about heatsink and fan for my Athlon.
I wanna overlock it to 2.2-2.3 ghz on default voltage, but I don't wanna much noise from the cpu fan.

For the heatsink I am thinking about :
- SLK-800 or 900 ( I'm not sure if any of them would fit on my motherboard, which is ASUS A7N8X Deluxe)
-SK-7 ( I read in previous post (Best Athlon XP 2500+ Barton Stepping), that is's cheap but very efficient)

For the CPU fan, i'm kinda confused. I don't wanna any Tornado, what CPU fan would you suggest, that is efficient , but quiet. What about a panaflo l1 ?

I'm planning on using a Thermaltake Smart Case Fan II which allows you to set the fan 3 different ways. Full Speed, CPU temp controlled, and Adjustable through a rheostat with an SK-7. Nice to have options.:beer:

I have SLK-800 with a Panaflow 92mm H1A. Not exactly quiet, but If you go for the L1A, it should be much quieter and still perform pretty good. I'm not sure if the 900 will fit on the A7N8X although I know the 800 will fit if you bend a few caps. Anyways, I'd say go w/ a 92mm Panaflo L1A or a 80mm Panaflo L1A as they're generally pretty quiet and perform well.

Just bought one and performance is almost on a par with the SLK-800. IMHO this heatsink provides by far the best bang for your buck out there as well as being extremely versatile by being able to take 60, 70, and 80mm fans!

I have Alpha 8045T HS w/Sunon Fan (80mm) spin at 2000 RPM. Palamino XP2000+ is 45C normal usage.
System temp at 40C. Room temperature at 78F. Case Antec Sonata w/ 120mm exhaust fan.
My system only have total of 3 fans, exhaust + PS + HS. System fan is spinning at 1500RPM, 1800RPM after 3-4 usage.

It is very quiet, I can even hear anything unless I put my ear next to the back on the case.

Maybe Barton runs alot cooler than Palamino.

I know, but what are those capacitors, what do they look like and where are they ?

slk-800 and 900 seem to be pretty solid heat sinks. Though whoever, said above (too lazy to look) is right, I had a Thermalright AX-478 (noooo one ever bought this thing but me haha) which performs about the same as my slk-800. Though I'm not disappointed, I think the slk-800 is a very solid performer and does it's job well in the summer heat. Just sometimes, for about 2-3C difference you can save 20 bucks.

You DO NOT have to bend ANY capacitors. I have the slk-800(u) on my A7N8X and there is no clearance issue. I think you're talking about the 900(u) as that one is larger and makes contact with the capacitors.

The 800(u)'s side is about half a cm from touching the capacitors. These capacitors are to the bottom of the socket, btw.

It's available at a lot of places.

Reviews of this have it quieter than others for a given temperature. This type of fan pushes more air than a regular twirler when there is resistance. (The cfm of fans is measured in free air. Against a modest load they are way lower. Sinks with a lot of fins are a heavy load.) The copper sink is in a league with Thermalright.

You can get the fan separately, but it I don't see how you could mount it on a Thermalright. Thermaright uses springy wires instead of screws.

A tiny plastic coated cylinder about .5 cm in diamater and almost 1 cm tall. They look a bit like a small battery. Standing upright on two little pins. You don't actually bend the capacitor, so much as bend the pins it is mounted on.
