put some vasoline on your hands and where gloves (or some old socks) over it overnight... when u wake up your hands will be a mushy mess.

Cetaphil works wonders. My hands usually crack and bleed during the winters(incidentally, you get funny looks if you turn in bloodstained assignments). I only have to use it at night, and so can avoid the unpleasantness of lotion on the hands during the day; but the skin still stays in good shape.

There was a corner store near me a few years back claiming to sell Emu oil. I was interested but it turned out to be a drug ring now I don't trust Emu people in my area.
