Very Disturbing Video - but I think important life lessons

I subscribe to Active Self Protection on youtubbe. Pretty good channel using videos of violent encounters to teach lessons. Today's video... geez. This apparently just happened a couple days ago. Husband/wife arguing with a neighbor across the street, egos running wild, and three people end up dead as a result. I'm posting this here because, when I finished the video, I basically sat silently for 5 - 10 minutes. I was angry and shaken that I watched it, but at the same time, I think videos like this need to be watched, especially for the male component of the species. Can't speak for anyone else, but I've certainly gotten angry behind the wheel of a car or let my ego take over when arguing with someone. Stuff like this is chilling, but it reminds us that winning an argument or getting the last insult in just isn't worth it - you never really know what the other guy/lady is capable of. For as horrible as this is, I think it should be required viewing because it sure as hell makes me rethink a lot of stupid arguments and focuses me like a laser to not fall into that mindset in the future.

i learned long ago that if hot-tempered people want to win a stupid argument, %99.99 of the time it's best to just let them win

people in cars are even worse - it seems to dehumanize many of them, and gives them the capacity of doing stuff they would never do face-to-face

if someone wants to cut me off or tailgate me, i get the heck out of there. there's nothing to be gained by "showing them who's boss".

I think Shorty posted about this right around when it happened not the security camera footage or anything but just a link to the story. Anyway, it's just a terrible situation all around. Three lives cut short over something so trivial.....

The guys make some decent points in the video especially about de-escalation and not getting yourself into a situation like this in the first place but everything said after that is pretty unremarkable.

My Take: 1) it looks like this couple had past issues with the guy who shot them. I don't think that this was a first time incident. I have a feeling that it was ongoing for a weeks, maybe months and he just lost it. 2)when the shooter went inside the couple should had kept their mouths shut, and they should had called the cops. Their ego was their undoing. 3) life is unpredictable, short and filled with suffering. It's a sad event that could and should had been avoided.

Ever watch the TV show FEAR THY NEIGHBOR on the ID channel? This kind of thing happens all the time. For one thing, peoples minds have become incapable of reason, It's like everyone is living on the edge, and a pandemic certainly does not help the situation especially case to point when a pandemic can turn into a political battle. When has illness ever turned into a political devision? This just shows that people have become very delusional, disturbed, and mentally handicapped. Oh sure, people can still hold a job and use the computer and manage a household but when it comes to getting along with others, the brain has a major disconnection. Is it the caffeine? Microwaves from the cell phone? Who knows. And I would bet that the people involved were once on a friendly bases.

Another problem, THE GUNS. When people are so mentally unbalanced and a gun is brought into the situation, someone is going to get shot plain and simple. And this is why instead of glorifying guns and gun ownership, we need not only regulations but public education that guns are there for hunting and self "protection", and NOT to settle arguments. And with our politicians becoming more and more crazy insane, and the guns becoming bigger and better at what they do, things will only get worse. I mean... just look at congress where now some politicians feel they must pack heat just to do their job legislating. How totally F-ed up is THAT? And... it WILL only get worse.

Stuff like this incident does scare the hell out of me. We have an insane neighbor across the canal who the police have been called on several times by people throughout the neighborhood. Couple years ago we had a hurricane roll through and, following that, I have the family out back and the kids were feeding some ducks. This guy comes out (my guess is we're about 150 - 200 feet from his backyard) and starts screaming/cursing because apparently we have a spotlight that goes off at night and affects him. Tried talking to him and pointing out that the kids were with me - reaction I got was to curse at them and threaten to come over and beat the shit out of me.

The guy is super unstable. We called the cops, but they are a reactionary force and aren't going to do anything until he finally snaps and does some real harm. There are no shortage of people out there who are on the edge and I agree this pandemic isn't helping their mental stability. No need to antagonize people who could snap at a moment's notice.

The dude who shot the couple was supposedly a vet. Also, this has been ongoing. The person who the blady calls out at the end (Brian Baranski) is a cop who was called out on numerous occasions. The couple were also throwing snow onto his property. Sad all around IMO.

A very real lesson that escalating conflict never ends well. Why they didn't immediately retreat when he came out with the handgun is beyond me. Another reason why I'm always carrying when outside my home, because you never know who might tip over the edge at any given time.
