VERY bad experience with Soltek

I no longer trust Soltek and I highly suggest other customers be wary before conducting business with them.
I contacted Soltek about one of their SFF barebones systems because I was concerned the PSU would be to rinky dink for what I eventually planned on having in the system. It's possible the motherboard sucked too.
I ended up spending around a hundred (or more) hours trying to get the damn thing to work based on the fact that Soltek said the power supply should have been adequate.
Worth noting is that I didn't even end up doing all the devices that I had inquired about. The configuration I ran: Athlon 64 3200+, 2x 512 Crucial Ballistix DDR400, Pioneer 16x DVD-RW, ATI Radoen 9600 XT AIW, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum, one 120 GB Western Digital Special Edition. I also tried running the system without the sound card. It didn't solve the problem.
I RMAd the first barebones system and couldn't get a second one to work properly either (it would fail to post randomly, and I had to set the RAM voltage settings to max to get the computer to not bluescreen or crash). The possibility of recieving two defective units in a row is HIGHLY unlikely, therefore I could only attribute the problems to a sub-par product.
My memory was rather fuzzy from the late nights of trying to get my system working, but I'm pretty sure I emailed Soltek about how I was very dissapointed in them giving me seemingly inaccurate information. I have not heard back from them.
It did not suprise me that a company that would tell me something that was innaccurate would try any sort of repairation.
Years ago, when I noticed a audio reproduction flaw on a set of THX Klipsch speakers, Klipsch acknowledged that there was an engineering flaw and went way out of their way to make it right (I had returned more than two sets because I thought the speakers were defective... it turns out that the revision I had purchased were... so they acknowledged the problem and made an effort to correct it... and hooked me up with the brand new revision of their ProMedia speakers at the time)
About the only way I think I'll ever recommend or use a Soltek product is if they were to do something similar. Until that time, I highly suggest not doing business with them until they acknowledge the sold a sub-par product and mislead customers.

Here is the correspondance between Soltek and myself in regards to my concerns of the PSU (before I started building the darn thing).
I put XXXs where some personal info of mine was that I don't feel like sharing, I also put the messages in sequential order. I didn't alter anything else.

> remarks:First Question:
> I recently purchased a Soltek EQ3801M. I had intended to buy the Soltek
EQ3801-300, but accidentally purchased the one with the 250 watt Power
Supply Unit. Does Soltek sell a 300 watt PSU that I could put in my new
EQ3801M Soltek case? If so, where can I buy one?

creative labs sound blaster platinum pro, a Athlon 64 3200+, 1 GB of DDR400
RAM, and the ATi Radeon X800 XT All in Wonder w/256 MB of RAM. Will the 250
watt power supply be able to power all those devices?

Dear Mr. XXXXX,
Thank you very much for your inquiry.
According to our tests, there should be no problem for the 250W PSU of EQ3801 to conduct all the devices you listed below.
However, as we don't have the "Creative Labs Sound Blaster Platinum Pro" in hand, we are not sure if this card is compatible with the mainboard. We suggest you confirm with the shop keeper if there is any incompatibility between this card and nForce2 mainboards before you purchase it.

Best regards,

Actually Soltek is a REALLY good company when it comes to their sff's. They are pretty much up to snuff compared to Shuttle and actually cater more to the o/cing enthusiast. As for the problem with your psu, I can pretty much tell you that the psu is not crappy by any means. It's actually the oem brand that Shuttle uses in all their sff's before being rebadged (read it on a review at sfftech.com). I also read in a similar review article for the Shuttle sn95g5 on hardocp.com that a 200w is more than adequate enough to run a system that has even more power consuming parts that you have listed. Check the review for more details.

I recently setup a soltek SFF with similar specs set with a 250W psu (EQ3401M-Pro to be exact). It was more than adequate for the demands of operation...though I doubt a serios OC'ing would be possible. Did you isolate each part to confirm working order?...G

I found Soltek's SFF to be a really great piece of kit.

The power supply was small but handled everything I threw at it (that was with the 200w nForce2 version). In addition I was able to overclock without massive temperature increases, thanks to its cooling system.
