me and my mate are in the market for full pc upgrades. i know this is always a problem, but i have the feeling we are just around the corner from big market upgrade, that is the new gfx cards will be out and the amd cpu market seems to be very dynamic at the mo. question is should we wait til say may or something or should we just accept changing pc market and upgrade now.

technology advances = market is always changing, not much you can do to stop it

You will definitely survive a wait for the Dual Core CPUs. Depends on what you're doing though - your rig has enough juice in it to see you through for more than a year for most applications.

And then survive another wait until the dual core processors drop in price. I can't imagine that they're going to be cheap.

In my view, it all seems to come down to how much you are willing to spend. Figure that out, then shop around, and buy the most PC that the money will get you. If you wait, or don't wait, there's always some new technology just around the corner. My systems are a good bit behind the latest-and-greatest - I'm still running Athlon XP-M's on nForce2 boards. Sure, they're not A64's with new motherboards, but they also didn't cost as much as an A64 and a motherboard and maybe DDR2 RAM would cost.

You have a point too. However, I'd have to say the dual cores are worth the wait - computing power has not advanced like it used to over the last couple of years. Hopefully, the dual cores will change that. Its obvious that good things will carry a price premium.

Even if the dual cores didnt exist - I see no reason why an upgrade is necessary at this point - an XP2700 is powerful enough for most apps, like I said above.
