Maybe it was the music, or that rat's sad sounding voice, but it made me cry.

so, why aren't smartphones rotating the video? the camera is actually close to round, isn't it?

my idea (probably already done):
default mode - phone is held vertically, video appears 16:9 at the top of the screen with buttons under it. the top model would have stereo mics.

Better solution: If the phone senses that it's being held vertically and it's been recording video for more than 2 seconds, it generates a high-voltage pulse through its shell as a means of training the user.
If the user persists, a small amount of embedded thermite will be ignited.

Vertical integration was a dream of the swivel rights movement.

accidentally linked chuck thinking it was Billy Mays..

on second thought though chuck would be a good source since he leans left.

The video was a good idea, it would have just been better if it was funny.

Nope, the camera sensor is rectangular. It COULD rotate the video automatically, but you'd have to crop the top and bottom, losing resolution needlessly. There is nothing sadder than unused pixels.

LOL at folks whining about vertical video. Just because your fat ass doesn't fit the format is no reason to hate the format. A simpler question is: why doesn't youtube recognize the aspect ratio of the upload and adjust the viewing box instead of black lining the video?

And rotate my monitor too?

If you'd like. How many online videos do you bother watching at full screen resolution?
Depends on the video, but actually, it's a fair number, if it's worth watching.

(Or else I'll just download it with DownloadHelper and watch it later, and avoid the constant "buffering" skips and stops.)

Still, if it's going to be in a little box in a browser, that's rotated so that it can't even fill that little box...well, that's tiny.
