Vertical Tearing With LCD

Nebor

Lifer
THis question hasn't been fully answered before... Can raising the refresh rate on your LCD reduce vertical tearing as it does with a CRT? My monitor's optimal settigns are 1280x1024 @ 60hz... But windows says it can go up to 75hz... I tried it at 75hz, and it really seemed to eliminate the vertical tears (which I see right in the center of the screen, usually.) But then I thought, that might hurt my monitor somehow, and set it back... Anyways, solutions? Ideas? Popcorn?

I swear I can see vertical tearing...

Not all games have Vsync options... and I can't find a global vsync enable option in my detonators...

NEBOR! shame. shame. shame shame.

You bought that beautiful 9800 pro and then you hooked it up with a 15 pin D Sub cable!?

Your problem is DIRECTLY due to to the analog cable, I am almost 100% positive. You wouldnt happen to have any speakers or audio equipment near your monitor would you? My roomate is having an identical problem with his CML174; but when he put the DVI connection on and moved one of his speakers, it totally eliminated the problem.

Cheers,

Kristopher

Yep DVI is the way to go if your monitor and video card supports it.Nebor your options are very limited but you could try a high quality Belkin PRO series VGA(D-sub) cable , however no gaurantees it will fix your problem.

Meh, screw that, I'll put that monitor in the closet and get a new one.

Yeah, I have speakers right next to it.

EDIT: NEC 1760NX from newegg for $469 shipped. $70 more than I paid for the one I have. I could hook them up right next to each other too... for dual lcd sexahness.

Where do you propose I put my speakers if not by the monitor? And I thought that speakers only effected CRT monitors. I can't see any distortion or anything towards the edges of the monitor closest to the speakers....

Its affecting the cable not the monitor itself (i think). How big are those speakers? little 2 watt suckers are going to give you problems as long as you got about 6" between the cable and the driver.

I actually had just bumped this thread to help out some guy who was asking about refresh rates. I no longer have any problems w/ vertical tearing since I turned on Vsync in the ATI Driver applet. Nvidia drivers don't allow for global vsync. So my problems are solved. I still need another LCD though.
