hi. yes i have been told by many that Win Me sucks. but it came with the new compaq my dad bought, and i dont wanna void the warranty/support by installing another OS.... yet.
so does anyone know how this problem might be fixed w/o switching OS's (or getting a computer that isnt a compaq). basically, it seems that every other time i shutdown the computer, it hangs and shows a screen w/ fat vertical orange stripes on a black background. ctrl+alt+del doesnt do anything. i've looked on the compaq forums and noticed a couple other people have had the same problem. one technician replied and told the person to reinstall video card driver. so i did that... twice.. and obviously, that didnt help me. i've also called compaq support.. twice... and i think u know what the result of that was. basically what compaq told me to do was to remove a bunch of stuff from startup, change the refresh rate of the video adapter from optimal to adapter default, and d/l and install the driver for my monitor (which isnt a compaq).
anyone have a clue as to what's going on here? i get the feeling it's a compaq related problem.. since i couldnt find any similar topics on microsoft.com
thanks!
