Vertical lines on FD Trinitron? (KDS AV-7TF)

Are there supposed to be vertical lines on the FD Trinitron? I know on the Trinitron there are two horizontal lines, but on my new KDS AV-7TF, there are 4 vertical lines about 1/3 of the screen from the left. Is this supposed to be? Also, the text seems fuzzier on the edges than it does on my AV-7T (regular Trinitron, not FD).

Thanks.

No you should not see any discernable vertical lines... the guide wires are horizontal lines, and if you have a 17" or above there will be two about 1/4 of the way in on top and bottom. You have the horizontal lines, right?

The "stripes" of an aperture grill are vertical, but it's not usually possible to discern those. I'd say there's something wrong. How noticible are they? Are they black? Do they only show up on white or very light colored backgrounds?

Sharpness at the edges is one of Trinitron's most glaring problems. I have a Sony G-400 and while I would never give it up (except for maybe a bigger Sony) I too have noticed that the extreme edges can appear out of focus sometimes. It varies in severity, but usually it's only the lower left corner.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I have two horizontal lines. One of the vertical lines is as noticable as the horizonal, and the others you have to look closely to see. Doh, I don't really want to pay a bunch in shipping for a replacement. I may just give the new AV-7TF to my parents and take the AV-7T (I was going to take the new one and leave the old with them). It's really not that bad.. I may just need to get used to it.

Thanks for the reply.

Try smacking the side of the monitor while its on, I have heard that works on a problem like this.

I had same problem with AV-7TF last month - looks like common problem, seems to be loose grile stripes, horizontal lines are not holding them properly.

Hit the screen from the side few times, they may dissapear.

Mine were gone after 2 days of hitting and shaking, but I replaced that monitor anyway, because of focus problem at the left bottom corner.
New monitor (same AV-7TF) looks much better.

Actually, do what doomguy and ark said; this tends to happen with aperture grille monitors a lot if the vertical wires are not aligned correctly. I've seen it happen more with Diamondtron tubes than with Trinitron (it used to happen on my Viewsonic PT795 and Mitsubishi 2040u, which use tubes by Mitsubishi) but it can definitely happen with both. This 21" SGI branded Sony Trinitron monitor has it on the left side as well, for about an inch in from the left.

Looks like vertical "damper wires"-like lines eewww :)

Yep, I've seen this happen on a couple Sony 17"s and an IBM 17"...I shouldn't have to smack a brand new monitor, and even if I did, it shouldn't take more than a few smacks to fix.

I consider this another reason not to use aperture grille monitors of any kind...

I had this problem happen a few days ago on my Mitsu 2040u- You can do 2 things 1: Crank the contrast & brightness to the max and let it sit like that for a few minutes-the lines should then disappear(didnt work for me) 2: smack the side of the monitor with your hand-worked for me instantly.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. It seems like smacking isn't doing much good. In fact, I just noticed some more horizontal lines on the right side. I've heard of people having focus problems in the bottom left, but I have focus problems in the top left. I think I'll give them a call. It's true they'll pay for shipping within the first couple days?

2 ways for exchange: KDS and place you got it from
KDS: First 90 days they pay for shipping both ways and will give you brand new monitor.
In my case I called online store and they shipped me new monitor and prepaid UPS return label.
I was charged for 2-nd monitor and got credit when returned came back to Ingram Micro.

In the iiyama manual "smacking the side" is officially advised for this prob.
It really is nothing more then a few lines sticking together. Maybe caused by shipping. Degausing might work too.
