The Vertex3 alone is one of the fastest drives for the price. I saw it recently on MemoryExpress and TigerDirect for $149 after rebate for 120GB, pretty much a steal considering two of those in RAID-0 can hit 1GB/s. I've never seen the Max IOPS version for under ~$230 though.
OCZ had a rocky start, but we also have to keep in mind they sold a crap ton of drives, and any SSD with the same controller will have risk of the same types of issues. Not to mention that Intel and Marvell have had their own issues as well. OCZ also gets updates from Sandforce before anyone else I believe, surely an advantage.
Having said that, I regularly recommend Intel and Crucial drives too despite that I have an OCZ. My Vertex2 did fail after about 5 months of use, the replacement has been solid though and the Vertex3 in another system has been flawless for nearly a year.
If the extra performance over the regular Vertex3 is worth the premium to you, I'd say go for it.
