hi guys need help again :) im about to buy a SSD for after effects and other video and photo editing purpose where i save the files.

I am choosing from the 2 ssd's as.

vertex 3 240GB
around $250+
Max Read: up to 550MB/s
Max Write: up to 520MB/s
Random Write 4KB: 60,000 IOPS
Maximum 4K Random Write: 85,000 IOPS

vertex 4 256gb
around $320+
Sequential Reads 560 MB/s
Sequential Writes 510 MB/s
Random 4k Read IOPS 90,000 IOPS
Random 4k Write IOPS 85,000 IOPS
Maximum IOPS 120,000 IOPS

money is not important as long as there is significant improvement between the 2. If its not really noticeable then perhaps i should just go to vertex 3 or what? :)

Does it have to be vertex? If proven reliability is part of your equation, why not Samsung 830 ?

Also, Plextor's 256GB M3 is currently $239 with a $40 mail-in rebate on Newegg through July 4th. According to this Anandtech review, the M3 comes close to (and occasionally exceeds) the performance of the OCZ Vertex 4 256GB SSD, and with the continual rising price of the Samsung 830, this drive appears to be a strong contender. The only issue is that it's a new drive, so reliability has not been thoroughly tested. Everywhere I've seen it has overwhelmingly positive reviews however.

The Plextor drives use Toshiba 24nm Toggle NAND and Marvel controllers with custom firmware. So they should be very reliable drives.

Rising price of the 830??? I just picked the 256GB from Newegg the other day for $190. It is still slowly coming down not going up.

Yeah, I saw that too. It was $249 with an excellent sale code that brought it down to $190. Almost picked it up too. Now however, the cheapest I can find it on Newegg is $274.99. Amazon had it for around the same price, I think, but it's $249 again for now.

Vertex 4. I've had nothing but good experiences with the Vertex 4 and Agility 4 lines. I can't speak to the Vertex 3 SandForce based drives, but they seem to be heavily disliked.

Decent price right now ($180 - no rebates) on the Agility 4 at newegg. Wish it didn't have asynch nand though.
They also have the Plextor M3 for $200 with toggle nand ($40 rebate) - I hate rebates but the toggle nand would be worth the hassle to me.
