Verizon's watching you, so opt out

Thanks. Completely unnecessary having to do each separately, not to mention that one is minimized. Scumbag tactics like trying to make it as confusing and difficult as possible for casual users aren't the least surprising anymore, especially from Verizon.

Thanks.

Looks like I had previously opted out of a couple, but I got opted in to the VZ Navigator and my wife's line was never opted out.

Thanks OP. Just opted out every line on my account. I have 5 users on there so I'm glad I could do that for them. I don't want Verizon essentially spying on them.

Didn't bother, don't care. I don't get why everyone is so paranoid about this crap.

It's not the paranoia, it's the principle. I don't actually care if Verizon knows what I'm surfing on my phone, but I do care about their policy of making changes without properly informing their paying customers. That's a step in the wrong direction, and if you don't care when they do it, they'll start doing more and more.

Without properly informing you?

So because they emailed that to their customers, everything's ok, right? 😛

If I was a business I would want the same information. Knowing your customer is one of the most valuable assets and most important aspects of a business. Not to mention every now and then intelligent advertising has actually been useful to me.

Read the fine print of opting out! This is absolutely NON CUSTOMER friendly!!!!

"Please note that many opt-outs are cookie-based. If you buy a new computer, change web browsers or delete the cookies on your computer, you will need to opt-out again. Please also note that some wireless devices, portals and websites have limited ability to use and store cookies. As a result, advertising entities may have a limited ability to use cooki...."

They have made opting out completely useless if you clean out your cookies. Let's say that you have 4 lines attached to your account, everyone prior to logging into Verizon needs to clear their cookies. on every computer, phone and tablets that they will be using. Why you say? Prior to logging in, you will have visited several website. And guess what? Verizon states the following:

"You have choices about whether certain information collected on websites, including Verizon's, is used to customize advertising based on predictions generated from your visits over time and across different websites."

Predictions generated from your visits over time. This means that when you first log into Verizon's website, let's say on work computer, Verizon can automatically capture all the webpages you have visited because you have no cookies on that computer stating that you don't want to have your data extracted.

This is total crap!!!!!

It's a nightmare for any user to always have to login to Verizon and have to re-opt-out!!! Especially if you clear your cookies on a regular basis.

one of the comments on that site says this. how would this work??

I didn't get any email notifying me of this change, I only learned of it because I saw this thread, so yes, my point still stands. 🙂

Sure if I were a business I'd want to know everything I could about my customers. However, I'm not a business and instead a paying customer, so my interests are the opposite, and I don't like it when companies change things without asking.
