this is interesting

seems those of us who currently have a plan will keep our current price and maybe unlimited data

THIS makes me happy, as I'm not ready to buy a new phone. Please let it be true!

And a comment on that post:

That is the same info I got when I called a VZW customer service rep. She said my unlimited data will always be honored on my existing line. Works for me. 🙂

This is no surpise however. Verizon doesn't want to let people leave their contracts. They would likely lose more money that way with people cancelling or getting new phones.

That's good news. What happens if you upgrade to a 4G phone? Will that mean you go to tiered? I suppose no one knows for sure. What do you think is likely?

Seems that moving to a 4G phone would have no effect, as you aren't adding a new line. But a fair question to ask to be sure.

With this news, I will probably wait until my contract ends in October to get a new phone. If they try to move me to tiered, they can choose to keep my existing contract or lose me as a customer. I would prefer to stay with them as they are pretty much the only service with coverage in one of the rural areas where I work, but oh well.

I get great Sprint coverage except one spot...my office lol. Everywhere else in the building is great! So I use roam control to force roaming to verizon when I am in my office.

Yeah, I tried doing that too, but Verizon is also a mixed bag in this area also.

I wonder if part of the reason Verizon is doing this is to make the market look less competitive to kill the ATT/Tmobile merger. That would be pretty creative.

DING DING DING DING We have a winner!!!!!

I thought the EXACT same thing when I saw these prices.

So Im thinking about taking the ETF on my Sprint line and moving to Verizon before all of this happens. My ETF on Sprint after about 10/11 months of use would be $130/140. Their 4G offerings don't look so great right now and would cost me about $120-150 through Amazon. I could get something like an Incredible 2 for free to hold me over until then. What do you guys think. I can sell my Epic 4G for about $250/300.

What possible reason could there be to pay a eft to go to this kind of crap? Sprint was already cheaper after this it won't even be close.

Man what a difference 24 hours has made. I made a post about considering other carriers to now reading that current contract holders *should* be grandfathered in, even at upgrade time and that they're expanding the LTE coverage in San Diego (main city has great coverage as it is, so I'm guessing it'll now encompass other populated SD County regions most notably North County).

Unconfirmed:

existing customers may be able to keep their current pricing and data plan when renewing or upgrading as long as they are locked in prior to 7/7.

Awesome. 🙂

Were you planning to go there anyway? Maybe I'm missing something... You already have unlimited on sprint.

If he's anything like me it's the coverage and speed. Around me Sprint has decent coverage but Verizon is much better and data is much faster. Costs with my discounts on each carrier are a crapshoot with Sprint's new $10 fee bull shit. Problem is I don't have the cash at the moment for the ETF and two phones. My billing period ends tomorrow and I've roamed 42GB's, we'll see if Sprint gives me the boot or not.

That's variable with where you live for sure. In my area sprint is faster.
