My 2 year contract ends on 1/4/12 and I just paid my last payment.. says it covers up to 1/3/12. Do I have to call them before 1/4 and tell them to cancel my service or they will keep billing me? Or does it just end if I don't do anything?

My 2 year contract ended 3 years ago. I've just kept paying them and they've just kept giving me service. If you want out I believe you'll have to take some kind of action.

I believe they just switch you to month to month.

Page Plus Cellular has some nice plans at cheap prices if you still like Verizon coverage in your area (I believe they use Verizon Pre-Paid network to carry their signal).

To my knowledge, nothing will change after your contract ends. You'll just have the option to 1)upgrade to a new phone at discounted pricing and a new contract, or 2)cancel without an ETF.

Thanks for the responses. I'll just call them before its about to end. Im paying $108 a month with taxes right now and its 900 min, 500 text, unlimited data.. feel like im being raped every month by them lol.

Pretty sure im getting a virgin mobile phone & plan for xmas.. not sure how their service is but it sure as hell will be cheaper.

Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint CDMA network, but without any roaming on Verizon CDMA. Its cheap, but don't expect the same coverage you have now.

Don't cancel, just port your number away when you sign up for new service. That will allow you to keep your phone number and automatically cancel you with Verizon once you do it. Don't do it before the contract was up or they'll bill you for an ETF.

Yup, I did the same, had VW for 9 years or so, decided to go to pre-paid at T-Mobile to cut cost. When I ported my number, it automatically closed my account with VW.
