You have 45 days to opt out or you agree that Verizon can share your personal data, including services purchased (including specific calls you make and receive), billing info, technical info and location info.

You can opt out:
by phone:
1 800 333 9956

by verizon wireless online account:
- Sign-in
- Mouse over "My Verizon" & click "My Profile," not sub-menu that pops up.
- Under Phone Controls, click "View/Edit Privacy (CPNI) Settings."
- Click "Don't share my CPNI" & hit save

by mailer: (wait for mail)

(did a quick search and did not find post)

done..thanks
what do you mean by 45 days - from today? I've had it for few months now.

Yeah, looks like it's not a contract-escape level thing, and I see no mention of a 45 day limit.

Your privacy is important to us.

In order to better serve your communications needs and to identify, offer and provide products and services to meet your requirements, we need your permission to share this information among our affiliates, agents and parent companies (including Vodafone) and their subsidiaries. The protection of your information is important to us, and we acknowledge that you have a right, and we have a duty, under federal and state law, to protect the confidentiality of your CPNI.

You have a right to keep your CPNI private by "opting out." Unless you provide us with notice that you wish to opt out, we will assume that you give us the right to share your CPNI with the authorized companies as described above. CPNI will not be shared with unrelated third parties.

Please be advised that if you do not opt out, your consent will remain valid until we receive your notice withdrawing it. You may withdraw your consent at any time; you may do so by calling us at 1-800-333-9956. Alternatively, you may call 1-800-922-0204 from 6am to 11pm to reach a Customer Service Representative who can process your opt out for you. Finally, you can also log onto www.verizonwireless.com, and opt out through My Account.

Furthermore, note that opting out will not affect the status of the services you currently have with us. In addition, we can disclose your CPNI to comply with any laws, court order or subpoena, or to provide services to you pursuant to your Customer Agreement.

For more information, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions below. Your privacy is important to us.

Customer Proprietary Network Information
Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What is CPNI?
A. Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) is information created by virtue of your relationship with Verizon Wireless. This information includes: services purchased (including specific calls you make and receive), related local and toll billing information, the type, destination, technical configuration, location and amount of use of purchased services.

Q2. Why does Verizon Wireless need my consent?
A. Verizon Wireless wishes to share your CPNI with our parent companies, affiliates, and agents in order to develop better products and services and offer you the full range of the communications-related products and services offered by them. The Federal Communications Commission requires that we obtain your consent to do so.

Q3. If I give my consent, what can Verizon Wireless do with my information?
A. With your consent, Verizon Wireless will be able to share your CPNI with our affiliates, agents and parent companies. CPNI will not be shared with unrelated third parties. Sharing such information will enable us to collaborate on how to better serve your telecommunications needs.

Q4. Can I change my mind about giving consent?
A. Yes, you can withdraw your previously-given permission to share CPNI by notifying Verizon Wireless at 1-800-333-9956 and following the recorded directions. You can also call 1-800-922-0204 from 6am to 11pm to reach a Customer Service Representative who can process your request for you. Finally, you can log onto www.verizonwireless.com, and withdraw your consent through My Account.

Q5. How am I affected if I decide to not provide my consent?
A. The decision to disallow the sharing of CPNI will not affect the services that you currently obtain from us. However, the inability to share your CPNI may make it more difficult for Verizon Wireless to work with our affiliates to offer you new communications-related products and services in the future.

edit: I always forget that this board just uses (q) instead of (quote)

Thank you so much for finding this. This should be stickied somewhere on this forum.

I love Verizon's coverage and phone plans, but shit like that does piss me off.

Is this an "opt out of your contact" thing or just an "opt out of their douchery" thing?
Opt out of their privacy invasion.
For the contract itself you only have 30 days.

You will also be receiving this in the mail or already have. This is why you should read your mail - even the fine print. I really don't see what the big deal is.

Man I hate Verizon. Wonder what this means for Alltel customers who are still in limbo.

What's the deal with that whole merger?

They've merged the networks at this point, in that Alltel customers can call Verizon customers and just use mobile->mobile minutes, and vice versa. Later this year Alltel will cease to exist and you'll become a Verizon customer. I'd assume the terms of your contract will be honored at which point you'll have to switch over to a Verizon plan.

That's happening to people with any cell carrier. Actually, I think Verizon sued them.

I just got my first car warranty call today (went to voicemail). I previously received a letter telling me that the warranty on my Chevy Colorado was about to expire. It came from "Dealer Services" and was signed by "Senior V.P. James Finley." The thing is, I don't own a Chevy Colorado. I borrowed my mom's Chevy Colorado to buy some stuff at Home Depot, and it was parked in my driveway for a few weeks. Apparently during that time they drove through my neighborhood and recorded what cars were in the driveways. They apparently did this during work hours, because we didn't get a notice about my wife's car (or maybe they thought it'd be suspicious to get similar looking warranty notices about a Chevy and an Acura?)
