Verizon Wireless on the move?

http://news.com.com/Verizon%2C+MetroPCS+snare+more+air/2100-1039-5263530.html?part=dht&tag=ntop

Verizon's $930 million bid was the minimum that bankrupt NextWave Telecom asked in exchange for 10 megahertz of spectrum covering New York, northern and central New Jersey, Westchester and Rockland counties.

Verizon, the nation's largest cell phone service provider, plans to use the spectrum licenses to expand its network's capacity for voice and data services.

Verizon vs AT&T + Cingular.

could be a battle of epic porportions. kind of like when AT&T duked it out with IBM in the PC market (J/K btw).

Verizon Wireless data service sucks @ss.

It is extremely poorly designed, and they are not willing to enhance it rapidly, because they already have a large customer base, and thus do not need to make it any more attractive to lure new customners in. They are extremely tough to deal with in negotiations on the use of their data network, and they are being pressured by some (I won't say who) big companies into unfair competition practices towards other wireless data soltion providers.

Hopefully, the merger of AT&T and Cingular will give them a wake-up call.
