Verizon Wireless default passcode for voice-mail

Is there a default code? My wife claims she never set a code but it's asking for one when she dials *86. I read somewhere that it was 1+ last 4 digits, but that didn't work.
 
This thread makes me happy. I could never even figure out how to dial my voicemail so I've been living w/o it for 6 months. 😕

That just says the person doesn't have a box setup. :| Why couldn't it be simple like holding down the 1 key on T-Mobile and then it has first time setup prompts?
 
I saw on their website that it's 9999. None of the other mentioned worked so maybe 9999 will. Phones at home so I can't try it now.
 
First time I went into my VM box for VZW they made me set a password. I can remember this cause it was only last month.
