well I am getting a cell phone this weekend most likely. I would like to ask a few questions.

1. Which phone do you recommend? I'm looking at the Motorola V710 or the LGVX7000. I am leaning torwards the VX7000 phone though because of price, and I have heard good things about it. However I want to be able to play my own rings in MP3 format or WAV format, instead of the stupid midi rings. It's not a NECESITY, but I would like that.

2. On the "Family Plans", if you get a plan for 400minutes, and one user pays $40/mo, then the additional line in the Family Plan is $20/mo, do you share the 400 minutes, or do you each have the 400 minutes? It's not too clear from their website.

3. One last thing, on the America's Choice plans, do these include free long distsance? Again, it isn't really clear from the website.

V710 is much, much nicer than the VX7000.

I've played with both (company phones), I would take the V710 any day.

1. i have the v710 and :heart: it, esp. with the 128mb transflash which i dump various 96kbps mp3's on it. it plays through the speakerphone speaker. but yes, ive heard mp3's can be played on the vx7000, except you have to change the file's extension to *.mid. even though it is a midi extension, the vx7000 will still play it as an mp3. but keep in mind, its not a memory generous as the v710.

2. no clue, never looked into/considered family plans.

3. i believe so. (not positive, as i use a local digital choice plan [more minutes, and i hardly travel, and i added long distance to my plan])

1. They are both great phones. Each has it's positves and negatives. Do a search over @ howardforums.com. The V710 Resource has lots of info on the V710.

2. You share the 400 minutes. Calls between the 2 phones and other Verizon customers are free however.

3. Yes, you can call any where from any where on the AC plan. There are a few small spots not in the AC plan...refer to the coverage map.



Give Verizon a call. They have very helpful CS.

after doing some more research, i actually have considered the VX6000. They have a buy-one-get-one-free type deal. And as of right now, my GF and I are the ones who are really looking into this, so we might consider that. I think that if we were to get those phones, with the 500 minutes to share, free weekends/nights, that we might be okay. And that would be $100 for the 2 phones, which is a great deal.

I just wish the VX6000 could play MP3 rings, but I'm pretty sure it does not. The V710 and the LGX7000 seem like awesome phones though. I just don't think I will use all of the features on them that often ...

what are your guys opinions on all these 'features' on phones these days?

Yeah, the VX6000 is buy one get one free after rebate. Go for that especially if you are getting a shared plan.

Don't forget, if you get the IN plan, the minutes don't count between the two phones.

in my post...i mentioned that whole renaming mp3's to *.mid, that trick works for the vx6000 also. the mp3's have to be of a pretty low bit rate i believe, but other than that, it will play fine, vocals and all. my best friend has a few songs on his vx6000.

is this after a bunch of mail in rebates? from the website, I was just browsing around and decided to add everything to my cart and what not, and I got all the way up the credit card information screen. and up to that screen, it had my total as $99.99*. however, that star showed at the bottom and it shows this:

oh yeah, almost forgot, the vx6000 does not have analog. so if you live in a remote area, and there are no digital towers around, your phone is about as helpful as a paperweight. if you do need analog, might want to wait for this: lg vx6100

depends on usuage. if its light, you will get close to what you usually get from the phone. if you use it a lot, you'd be lucky to get through a whole day.

ah okay, is there any software that is needed or is it like a temp directory in windows?

so the bottom of the phone has a USB slot on it then? or do I need some type of adapter.

its actually different then a usb slot. looks almost serial. i think radio shack has the cable. dont quote me on that though. if you use ebay, just search for 'vx6000 cable' and you'll get tons of results. but the other end of the cable which goes into your computer is usb. then you load up bitpim, it'll read your phone, and then display tabs for the different categories of your phone (wallpapers, ringers, address book). you just drag the appropriate file into the corresponding tab. then have the program send the new data to your phone. remove cable, and there ya go!
