Verizon Wireless customers: best phones?

Hey all,

I live in NYC and i'm going to switch to Verizon from T-Mobile (FINALLY).

for all you verizon people, what phones do you use, and which ones have you found

to be the best in terms of battery life and functionality?

I like eye candy as well.

Any interesting promotions/deals going on right now for verizon service plans/phones?

thanks

I've had really good luck with the T720, get the firmware upgrade, the other bad thing is that the battery sucks. You can get it now for 99 after rebate which is awesome. I think that a lot of people will concur with me on this one.

Best deal right now is either the LG VX-4400 or the Audiovox (Toshiba) CDM-9500. The Motorola T720 is too expensive and has lots of software problems. The 9500 gets the best reception, has the largest sceen, w/ 65,000 color display, and has speakerphone (albeit not a very loud one). The major drawback to the 9500 is the battery life. The battery that ships with it is piss-poor, rated at 95 minutes of talk-time. You'll want the extended life battery if you get this phone. The 9500 is also not as sleek or sexy as the LG 4400. The external display is very small. The 9500 is $149.99 with a $100 mail in rebate (w/ 2 yr contract). Add another $50 for the extended life battery.

The 4400 also has a 65,000 color display, although much smaller so it doesn't drain the battery so fast. Also has a nice large external display, with 10 different color backlights to choose from. Cool bright blue backlit keypad, and comes with a desktop cradle rather than just the power cord. The 4400 is $199.99 with a $100 TRADE-IN rebate (you have to send in an old working phone, also w/ 2 yr contract)

If you want performance, go with the 9500, it's been solid as a rock. Also gets the best reception (coincidentally has a HUGE antenna).

If you want sexy, go with the 4400, just came out but haven't had any problems with it yet.

Don't waste your money on the T720.

As you might tell I work at Verizon 🙂

It's not available everywhere, but my Motorola V60i has been excellent in every important performance aspect, and the size is perfect. It might be too plain for you if you want the eye candy and extra features though.

Verizon has pretty rigorous testing before they approve a phone, so any of the Audiovox CDM-9500, LG-VX4400, or Moto T-720 should be fine. Go with the one you like best, and take advantage of the 14 day return period if you encounter problems. FWIW, I read from an in-store CS person that the LG VX-4400 is the one that has the highest percentage of happy users (lowest return rate).

I just upgraded from the Startac 7868 to the T720, and I love it. I've had no software problems. For those complaining about software or firmware problems, I bet they never bother to go to their local Verizon store to have theirs upgraded for free. The latest software version is 1.2.22.2DP. The battery life is average, but for me, it's fine, as I never even come close to using my free minutes every month. If you have a problem with the battery that comes with the phone, you can upgrade it to a better one, so that shouldn't be an issue either. A good resource for further research and opinions is found here.

Yes, while the 22DP software does correct many problems, it doesn't correct the biggest problem, that being the internal display going completely blank and the phone freezing. There still is no permanent fix for this problem, the customer's only option is to remove the battery for a second then replace it.

omfg, my sister is going to do the same O_O

In April Verizon is supposed to roll out phones with the same direct connect feature as nextel. The patent is up so now Verizon can start marketing it. I am going to hold off until then.

I've had a T720 for a few months now and haven't had a single problem with it fwiw. No lockups, glitches, or itching burning sensations. I like it quite a bit actually. I charge it every other night, but you can also get an extended battery pack for it you really suck 'em down.

Who needs 65000 colors on their cell phone screen? 😀 Look at this beautiful postage stamp sized screen?

I hae the Samsung SCH-A310.

It has absolutely crazy standby battery life, and talking battery life is on par with all the rest. It doesn't have a color screen but I didnt' care for them since the resolutions look horrible still. It's a blue backlight though on the screen as well as the buttons. You can also categorize people into groups and the outside LCD will show a specific color according the the group.

The only problem I have with it is a lack of a standard ring tone. =\ I just keep it on vibrate since none of the rings/melodies are good (can't download ringtones either). Also since its silver, I dropped it a few times and the scratches are VERY visible. =\

Exactly. Not a single problem with mine either. My only complaint is that no Verizon stores here in the CT area have the new software yet. As far as the whole Nextel direct connect rumor, don't be looking for Verizon to offer that anytime sooner than next year, and even that is a reach at this point.
