Verizon Wireless Cancellation Question

Let me preface this by saying that I am not complaining directly against the Verizon Wireless service. I have been a customer since 2000 and have had nothing but good things to say about the service. But, here is my new dilemma...

I recently moved to a new side of town that is the 'rapidly expanding' side of town and now I get little to no cell coverage. This has caused me to drop an additional $30 a month on Vonage and I rarely use my cell phone. This makes my phone bill around $100 which is unacceptable since I do not use the phone that much at all but I need a cell phone for certain reasons outside of the house and I obviously need phone access at home.

I want to get out of my Verizon contract and sign up with Sprint since it definately works here. This would allow me to drop $30 a month in phone cost that I have simply because Verizon will not work at my house. The thing that sucks more is that since I have Vonage, if I lose my internet connection I am without a phone. This happened the other night and underscored my need for something different.

Has anyone tried to get out of a Verizon contract early? Has anyone tried to do so under similiar circumstances? I am never late on my payment and have never been late in 6 years so hopefully that will help my case. Any advice or similar stories would be appreciated.

Cliffs:
1) Recently Moved
2) Verizon does not work here / Sprint does
3) Had to pick up Vonage in order to have service at home
4) Want to get out of Verizon contract without paying full amount (I'm over a year in the current 2 year agreement)
5) ??? Shafted?

just talk to a supervisor and tell them there is no coverage in the new area you moved to.

I dont think they will ask you to pay the early termination fee since you are not getting service

Does the detailed coverage map show VZW has service in your area? Here's a link:

If there's no service, I think you can get out of a contract with no penalty. That's one of the accepted reasons for termination.

If there is coverage there, but it's just spotty, you'll have to pay the ETF. However, I heard a while back that VZW was prorating the ETF for customers now, so if you've been with them a while, you may not have to pay the whole $175.

HowardForums has a verizon forum, you might check there.

Thanks guys. Yes, I do get service here but it might as well be non-existent. It is the 'one-bar' service where you can talk to someone but they hear every other word or it just disconnects within 10 seconds.

In York, PA, I saw a Sprint store with a sign that says they will buy your contract. You may want to see if that is a nation-wide promotion.

I'll definately look into that. Most likely it is local but it never hurts to ask...
