Verizon wireless: Can you have multiple numbers for one phone?

Since school and home are in two very different area codes, having a "home" area number on my phone would make it so my mom can harass me, but nobody at school can get in touch with me without paying dearly. Conversely, having a school area number on my phone would make it impossible for my mom to not flip out during the day (I know, it's sad, but she's almost gone in more than one way). So, using Verizon wireless (my preferred provider for local connectivity reasons), can I get two numbers on the same phone (without paying a ton)? If not, what are my other options, short of getting mom a verizon phone as well (she'd never be able to push the buttons on a cell)

I should probably be speaking to a CSR about this, but meh. Lets see what ATOT knows first. Maybe I can get a better deal this way.

Dude, cut the apron strings. Get the area code for school or wherever your friends are.
Snip snip snip. This is the perfect opportunity to cut cut cut those strings. Don't enable

BTW, I just kept my original cell phone number when I first went away to college. Everyone already has a cell phone w/ free long distance, so it's no big deal. I really can't see a point in getting a phone number with the schools area code unless maybe you plan on living there permanently.

Very true. I hadn't even considered that aspect.

Yeah, and if you happen to meet someone who doesn't have a cell phone, they will probably have internet access where they can get ahold of you instead of calling long distance from a land line.

Just stay with your home area code. People at college have their own cellphones and most have free long distnace

yep. 100% correct. everyone's phone number around here is in their home area code. everyone has cell phones so it doesn't matter.

yup. EVERYONE has a cell phone with free long distance, so it makes more sense to have a phone with your parent's area code, because they are the only ones on the planet ancient enough to use a land line to make phone calls. saves them the cash, and no one else cares what your number is because they just program it and forget it.

yup, like everyone said - just keep your home area code. everyone at school has cellys that have free long distance... everyone I met last year at college had cellies that could call long distance free.
