I used to be able to listen to .mp3s on my phone through my miniSD card that I had. But, recently I went to the Verizon store and got a firmware upgrade because it was randomly shutting down and stuff.So I got the update and then now I cant listen to .mp3s or anything anymore. Basically I used to not have VCAST music and now I do. How do I get it to work again?

It probably makes sense to you, because you know what you are thinking... but for the rest of us... Whew.

I think the new firmware from verizon disables mp3 playback.It does for the razor v3. get it flashed back.I swear i read this someware on the net.I just bought my daughter a verizon Razor phone .

Edit: I remember reading they did it so you have to buy there music downloaded onto your phone

google the current firmware and see if you can find the original version.

and this " Suggestion - if you get a 9800 from a Verizon store, have the firmware upgraded to version 2 before you leave. It takes only 10 min or so and is worth it. I was told by four Veriz employees, tech people incl, that starting in late April, they will no longer sell the 9800 with mp3 player and the next firmware upgrade will REMOVE the mp3 player... it will be necessary to pay veriz for downloading WMA files to have music. No doubt, there will be workarounds for this just as there are with the now-removed mp3 player on the 8100 that can be found within the "Secret" menu. Yeah, mp3 files can be converted but when you have a few hundred songs on a card, who wants to mess with that and take the time"

Looks like firmware version 2 is the way to go anything after that (version3?) removes the ability to use your memory card to play mp3"s??

Wow, I officially hate Verizon. Now I have to go back tomorrow to go by the Music Essentials Kit and let me tell you it is ESSENTIAL. That is the only way you can transfer music to your phone and you need a PC to do it. What if someone had a Mac like me? Verizon needs to be put in its place. Its place is the service of its customers not the service of itself where th ey try to stiff you for every little thing that you do. They are the only one that puts restrictions on Bluetooth, Music, and they have their own proprietary menu system that sucks a**. Anyone agree with me?

You'd probably get a lot more response from Howard Forums. Your answer probably already exists there if you read the right forums.

My VX8100 had no MP3 capability when the phone first came out. I had to go to the store to get a software upgrade. Since then I've had no problems with the phone, so I've not bothered to look into new updates. I specifically fear running into the problem that you've encountered.

I had a similar problem with my VX8300. Verizon cripples the features and so I had to enable MP3 playback through the hidden service menu. I recently started having problems with the battery life, and then suddenly, my phone just died. I got it replaced, but the new version had the new firmware, and I couldn't enable the MP3 features in the service menu. I can access the memory card, though through VCast. Get It Now > (1) Get Tunes & Tones > (4) My Music. It adds all the songs on my memory card to the library.
