Looks like AT Gadgets and Phones missed this announcement.

09/02/2010

Considering I use like 30 minutes a month voice, I will be switching to this once my 1 year contract ends. Hello $40 unlimited data monthly fee!

Plus I can use some VOIP (with caveats) for much of voice.

Just wish I could get on this now instead of paying the $40/mo for 450 minutes I don't use.

AT&T users across America just shat a brick.

Instead of capping their data plan, Big Red just gave us $30/UNLIMITED pre-paid.

That is pretty sweet. Would be nice if they lowered the contract price by a few bucks. :) Just a couple, not too much to ask.

FWIW... there is some confusion right now whether or not this prepaid data will be available with paygo/prepaid voice or only with postpaid voice (the latter doesn't make much sense does it?). There is rumor that it won't be available for pure paygo/daily plans, but the actual prepaid month-to-month plans, which makes it slightly more expensive than a postpaid account with the same features.

If so, boo @ $75/month minimum.

What people are forgetting is that the $30/month prepaid plan is on top of the prepaid voice plan. You HAVE to have a prepaid voice plan to get the data plan so it's not only $30/month. It's $30 on top of whatever prepaid voice you get as well. Last week Engadget covered this and people at first were happy until they learned that you still had to have voice.

Do you have to use a specific pre-paid version of the phone or can you pick up an old Droid of ebay and use it?

Uhh, no. You would obviously go on the Daily plans, which are pay as you use each day, not a monthly payment:

http://www.verizonwireless.com/plans/global/prepaid.shtml

If you don't use voice one day, you don't pay. The moment you pick up a call or call someone, you get charged the amount noted in your plan for that day. Plus whatever per minute charge your plan is.

You could even go on prepaid Basic at .25 cents/minute and pay $7.50 extra a month for the 30 minutes you use your voice.

With you, its never about the company doing a good thing. Its always about the competition having their ass handed to them or how the competition sucks so bad.

You are a tool.

That's the rub. Current rumor is that Verizon will ONLY allow the data package as an add-on to the MONTHLY prepaid plans, which makes it $5 more expensive than the same plan postpaid ($75/month for 450 minutes). There's currently no confirmation whether or not it will be available with paygo plans.

That would be B.S. but unsurprising.

So today was the day that Verizon rolled out the unlimited data on pre-paid and yes, you can only use it on the monthly plans and not the daily plans. It turns out prepaid is MORE expensive using the cheapest plan for me - $45 for 450 minutes on prepaid monthly vs $40 postpaid? What is Verizon thinking? Dumbasses.

$5 more per month for living without a contract? Some people would pay that premium.
