Dear Verizon Online DSL Customer,

The following information is critically important to customers who are using an Efficient SpeedStream 3060 ADSL modem. If you are not using an Efficient SpeedStream 3060 ADSL modem, please disregard this message.

Working with the modem manufacturer, we have uncovered a problem with the Efficient software configuration that adversely affects individual user performance. Customers with 3060 Efficient modems must upgrade their modem software in order to retain DSL connectivity.

To resolve this problem quickly, we ask that you download and install the new modem software ("driver") immediately by following the steps listed below. You must complete the driver upgrade before January 8, 2001. After that date, a change in our network settings will prevent your DSL service from working with your Efficient modem if it has not been upgraded.

Please print the instructions below for completing a Web based download.

1. Go to http://download.bellatlantic.net/drivers/SpeedStream3060.exe
2. Click SAVE AS
3. Select Desktop in Save As window
4. Click SAVE
5. Disconnect from DSL session
6. Double click SpeedStream icon on Desktop
7. Follow the on screen instructions, choosing next or yes as appropriate.
8. After your computer reboots, log into your Verizon Online DSL account as you normally would.
9. You may delete the SpeedStream Icon from your desktop.

This upgrade is for authorized Verizon Online customers only.

In a few weeks we will mail you a CD from Verizon Online that contains these new drivers. These are the same drivers that are available now to download. We strongly recommend that you upgrade your driver by following the download steps above. However, if you are unable to do so, you may upgrade your drivers by following the instructions that will accompany the CD.

We understand the inconvenience this mandatory upgrade may cause. To thank you for your patience and cooperation, we will include a $25 Amex Gift Cheque with the CD.

Thank you very much for your prompt attention to this important software upgrade.

Sincerely,

Verizon Online

I downloaded these new drivers and it seems to have made quite a difference. I don't get all of the little lags and pauses that I used to get.

What I really want to know is WTF is up with the $25.00 from Amex?

So the drivers made a difference? I've been trying to decide on whether or not to get the Westel External w/Nic and Verizon just ISN'T helping on this one. I got the same email, but was hesitant to download. Not sure whats up w/the Amex, but free is free. If all I have to do is put up with the so so service I have been getting (online for 7mo now) and the horrid support (45+ min hold time to talk to ONE person) to get it, sure. BTW, they have credited my acc with two months of free service to make up for the downtime. I'm going to download the new drivers, but keep my other drivers handy just in case. :)

The drivers seem to have made a difference.

I gotta really bitch at them some more next time there is an outage. I want some credited months.
