Verizon SHDSL. Anyone see it yet? (We have problems with it now)

Basically my fraternity is the firt people to order it. Its suppose to be some super fast business line. Anyone know the details for it???? Speed??? I have 13 guys in the house coming off it.


List a better service and awesome speeds for 13 computers if you can. We have 30 day trial for this thing plus we did get the free modem which was $200

i didnt. Our pres did. Its brand new and supposed to be there fastest service avail. Its like 8/10ths a t1 and were 1 mile from the station so..

i looked it up:

it seems to just be synchronous DSL (same up as down)
Prices for the service range from $149.95 to $369.95 per month, according to speed, which ranges from 192kbps to 1.5mbps.

its for small business.

you probably would have been able to find same speed for less money if you guys had shopped around.

since I don't know what the exact price is and your location/options i can't say if this is good or bad deal for you guys.


Alll I know is where I live, i have better options for cheaper.

FFactory0x, this is Verizon's SDSL offerring. It's not very price competitive with other SDSL providers (e.g., Covad). Verizon also offers ADSL with static IP addresses as a business service, and this is priced more competitively. Also, this is a brand new offerring from Verizon OnLine, and as someone who has been the first to get a few different DSL services from Verizon, I can tell you that being the first guy is NOT a happy place to be.

I'm not sure why your fraternity president would get this, frankly. You could likely do better with competitors. But if it's already ordered, don't worry about it, just hope it works well.

ya, first is not the thing you want to be

guinea pig is more like it.

its houdl be pretty good speed. but cmetz is right, shoudl have shopped around, but as i said it might be the only available to you.

In my location it isn't and thus would not be a good deal to me.

next time go to dslreports.com and look at otehr providers there. that is how i found cyberonic.com for my DSL needs.

Well we did get it installed but the problem is we get net for 30sec then shuts off for 30, etc. The dsl light on the modem blinks on for 30sec then off then on then off. Verizon see's us as online but see us getting a drop off when the light blinks off. What could be the problem. Our service wil host 13computers ,13static ips, and speeds are 1.1/1.1 in 5 channels so x5 5.5/5.5 by 13 guys. Will this be fast enough? Also if you can find a better deal out there that will give us insane speeds for around the same price, im all for

better price than what? you never listed yours.

if you can give us your privce and actual speed ratings then you can likely get a better deal.

(for example: my adsl with bellsouth.net is $45 monthly and i get maxes like 1700/700 and normal speeds like 1450/500)

x81kilo, does VOL's G.SHDSL work with Cisco's G.SHDSL WIC?

Oh, and is availability much different than ADSL? (for example, any chance of using this with HDSL repeaters/loop extenders/etc.) I know plenty of folks who would jump on this if they could get it because they don't currently have any other choices.

G.SHDSL line code is an international standard, so if Cisco's WIC is built to this standard
it should work. I would hope it would respond to ATM OAM pings and they would have
to know how to set there PCR/SCR/MBS setting in the Cisco.

G.SHDSL is not available as widespread as ADSL. Some vendors already produce
G.SHDSL repeaters (not HDSL repeaters, won't work), but Verizon is not considering
repeaters for this SHDSL product yet.

There is a new product coming down the line called GoDigital which extends normal
ADSL out to 37kft (Currently ADSL is maxed out at 16,200ft + it depends on cable type 22 guage, 24guage, or 26guage the higher the number the worse the signal, the less of the loop you can have).

Anyways GoDigital will be available around May 2004 for VOL customers in 250 central offices in the West Coast.

x81kilo, G.DMT is an international standard, too, but you see how interoperability for ADSL worked out. In practice, if you don't buy the device from your DSL LEC, you're really really on your own. I was hoping that Verizon & Cisco, being big companies with an existing good sales relationship, would do something to make the Cisco WIC an officially supported CPE option. Business customers would get a big warm fuzzy feeling from that.

Any word on "GoDigital" availability for VOL-East former Bell Atlantic territory? Unfortunately, VOL East and VOL West are all but different companies...
