I recently took my v60c in for repair after a problem with the display and had them replace it with another phone. Lo and behold when I got it back I was going through the menu's and noticed the options for Games, Calc, etc. They replaced it with a v60i, I was happy as h3ll until I realized that the '2' button didn't work and had to return it yet again. Took it back, had them swap it out....got another v60i. Long story short, all new Verizon phones come w a 1 year warranty, if you have a v60c and have a legitimate claim (I don't need a bunch of chuckleheads driving my costs up even more =]) I would highly suggest taking it in.

As w most deals, YMMV, I can't guarantee it but I hit 2 for 2 and given that the v60i's have been out for a while now I wouldn't be suprised if th success rate was very high.

you can get the new games and etc via a firmware upgrade at any verizon store. really no difference between the v60c and v60i other than replaceable faceplates.

In San Diego, verizon stores are stupid about firmware upgrade. I also got updated fimware by trading in my phone. They also fixed the antenna a tiny bit. The only difference between v60c and v60i is interchangeable body kits and firmware 2200version. That is really all.

I just had a Verizon rep at my work place today. Although she didn't seem all that helpful she did tell me that Nextel's patent on thier direct connect feature is up in January. Verizon will be adopting this feature soon. I confirmed this with a call to Verizon and talked to a rep over the phone. She said that they will be getting this feature on thier phones but could not tell me when.

Amazing. This is almost the same story my friend told me in class (so it must be true!)
His version:

Went into verizon asked for a firmware upgrade. They said oh well that's cool it's free lemme go in the back and tweek it for you. They come back saying "oh um... we seem to have blown the chip..............." so they just gave him the v60i instead since verizon no longer carry the v60c's.

I've had bad luck with replacements. They're always refurbished, and I went through 2 of them before I got one that didn't have some sort of problem. So I'd suggest asking for a replacement only if you're having some issue. If they're the ones that screw up your phone, then that's a different matter. You probably get a new phone in that case.

one last ^

Also, for those that missed it. I believe Verizon is selling the v60i's for $49 w a 2 year contract. I paid $250 - 50MIR only 8 months ago.

I had the v60i software since 3 months ago. The difference between the v60c and the v60i even though the FCC ID is the same is that the v60i has Digital TTY which is useless for people unless they are handicapped. Other than that, the other difference is the v60i comes with the new Slim Extended battery which is 700mAh 5704A with 250 minutes talktime instead of the Slim battery which is 500mAh 5717A with 150 minutes talk time. I have the 5704A in mines as I know the guys at the local Verizon store and it does help with talking. Do any of you guys happen to know how to use conference calling if you're on a call and a new call via call waiting comes in without having to call the person back to do the conference since send would just jumping between the two persons. Also, the v60i does have the newer antenna and base but these can be easily swapped out or depending on which Verizon store you goto if you break your antenna, they will either replace only the antenna or replace both the antenna and the base for free. The front flip of the v60i is the only physical difference which can be done for $75 or so to get the v60i front on a v60c.

Weird. The only thing that would happen is you lose your custom ringtones but I've never heard of chips get blown before.
