Verizon raising my DSL from $20 to $25/month

used to be $9.99/month then every year since they've raised it $5/month. so 14.99, 19.99, now 24.99.

on top of that, I pay $19/month for a barebones landline phone service cause that's needed for DSL service nowadays. (no dry loops)

cheaper alternatives?

dial up - turn off autoload of images

It's not a big increase. Still, I'd be bitching at them for only giving you 1mb/s after all these years.

Anyway, I pay $60/mo for 15/1 DSL. Quite pricey, but I get unlimited bandwidth. Bell Canada just installed fibre in my neighbourhood. Offers crazy speeds but they're only giving like 150GB caps, and it costs more.

For $29.99 you can get 15meg-30meg internet plans from Cable/Uverse etc.

You can get 3-6meg for $15-20 I believe.

dang. i have 30mb internet for around $30 a month and that includes a voip landline.
no cap. speeds available of up to 100mbps, but there's no need. 30 is enough for me...

Did not realize there was still DSL in the states lol, isin't everything all fibre to the home now? Even *I* got that, and I'm up north. Mind you only the houses that are fed with overhead cable plant can get fibre here, rest is DSL/dialup or cable, which is capped.

I'm paying around $180/mo for my service but can't complain about the price. 50/30 is phenomenal compared to 8/1 dsl I had before. I managed to download 1TB in less than a week and I was not even maxing it out all the time. It also includes TV and phone. The internet could go up to 250 but they cap anything after 50 so I stick with that.

Given the price increase ask if they can at least bump your speed. If they can't, ask to see if they can try another cable pair. Demand satisfaction.

$25 + $19 = $44, might as well get basic cable internet for that price and have better speeds.

Don't know where you are located, but maybe check with your cable provider. TWC offers a 1mbit down/1mbit up service for $20 here. Or you can get their standard package (15/1) for $35, which is only $10 more than your DSL line, but a hell of a lot faster.

$35... right. Depends on the area and how long you've been with them. I pay $55 for my 15/1 now. They have increased it a few times on me. I'm about ready to threaten to move to Frontier DSL to see if I can get them to budge because this is ridiculous.
