verizon phones

waggy

No Lifer
i have a verizon droid 2. i can get a free upgrade to a droid 3.

well my daughter's phone is dead (only stays on for 2 minutes) so i thought about upgrading mine and giving the old one to her.

Question do i have to have internet on it? one guy on the phone (verizon) said yes. but i heard that you can activate it without internet.

anyone know for sure?

i don't trust the people at Verizon to give me honest answers

If you buy it subsidized, i.e. $200 on 2 year contract, then yes, you must activate it.

You don't have to get internet if you get it off contract. That will run you anywhere from 300-800 dollars. $300 being 2 year old phones.

not sure i understand.

my daughter has a line and a old used phone. I want to upgrade mine (extending my contract yes) and give my old phone to her.

i know i will need it on mine since thats part of the contract on getting it cheap.

the question i have is do i have to put it on the old phone for her? she won't be extending her contract or nothing.

I read on..howard furoms (i think that's what it is called) that i should be allowed. but i can't find my thread heh.

Lol tell me which phone cost 800 for verizon, there are plenty of Thunderbolt owners who would take $300 in New heartbeat. Your. Pricing is totally wrong.

Haha for sure, I just got a thunderbolt today for $160 off Craigslist. I don't think I've ever seen a $800 Verizon phone

I think he was talking about new. Even then that isn't the case anymore, but back in the Treo days pushing $800 for a smartphone retail wasn't unheard of.

OP: Your going to have to have data on the line for your daughter. Even Verizon feature phones now require data.

I have never seen a $800 phone unless it was a Factory Unlocked iphone imported from overseas, The highest palm treo phone i have seen was in the 679.99 I don't know i may have missed something.
$300 today in the secondary market will get you a nice Tbolt with plenty of change left, D Charge, Iphone 4 and in 2 month a nice bionic. I sure love how android make phone prices depreciate so much and so quick.

Probably OK. But if she won't use internet, have you thought of putting her on PagePlus?

nope. never heard of it.

we lock the phone down pretty tight (she can only recieve and call like 7 people). NO texting and no internet.

main reason i allowed it is teh gps. with verizion you can log on and see where the phone is. and since me and my wife are divorced it gave her a chance to call me whenever.

how old is she? if you are going to treat her like she's on death row, why bother giving her a smart phone. just get whatever cheap flip phone they have. those definitely don't require a data plan. I think smart phones might require them no matter what, regardless of where you bought the phone or when your contract expires. I'm not positive though

You'll have to pay Verizon's $30 per month data plan in order to add that D2 on her plan if she doesn't have data today.

Waggy, I am pretty sure that when you go to activate the old phone to your daughter's number, they are going to see that it is a smartphone and make you add a data plan. It is stupid, but they are going to bend you over anyway they can.

If you were on AT&T with sim cards, you could get away with it, but the new system Verizon and Sprint have, give them a pretty good amount of control now.

Holy cow, might as well stick a tracking anklet on her. :/

Page Plus is a prepaid Verizon reseller. So all Verizon devices (except, I think, Blackberries) can be ported over. They don't offer much data, but the prices for everything else are good: either prepaid, or $30/month for 1200 minutes/3000 texts/100mb data, or $45/month for unlimited voice/text/20mb data. Their setup is designed for you to work through a dealer, and a number of people here use Kitty Wireless.
