Verizon Online

Anyone out there have Verizon online DSL? My parents have it for their business, I understand everything is a dynamic IP but I am trying to do some stuff with it and I notice that they are getting disconnected quite a bit and when they get disconnected the IP address changes EVERYTIME. And they only get disconnected when we are doing stuff that uses a lot bandwidth...

I have had my and they have been downloading from it, but when I try to open a VPN connection or a VNC connection I get disconnected. I think I had 4 new IP addresses in 30 minutes.

Does anyone know if Verizon DSL offers a static IP in the Baltimore / DC area? and if so any idea of cost?

get cable

verizon dsl blows

seriously for the money you pay you can have a faster connection

not to mention their customer service for dsl is a joke

They offer a static IP in their "business plan" which is a rip considering it costs 4x and only bumps the speed slightly (total 1500/384)

I think that's what they have... they said they went 1.5Mbps down and 768 up

Through Speakeasy that package is about $100/month I think. If you go right through Covad I know you can get 1500/128 for $50/month but I forgot if that was static or dynamic. For $50/month, SE gives you 608/128. I'm contemplating upgrading to 1500/128 but I'm not sure if I will.

I dont know if this helps at all..but with my cable modem I was having the exact same problem...I would get disconnect very frequently...after numberous calls to attbi they found that my ip was only leased for only 20 minutes or something like that...took them about 5 minutes to fix and I have been up and running ever since

No kidding - their service SUCKS and I've been charged $55 for something we (me and roommates) didn't even use!

And my friends have been screwed over by Verizon when setting up their business phone account as well :|

Well for me cable is almost twice as expensive as cable. They charge 60 bucks a month for 120k/12k and Im gettin Verizon for 29 for 6 months and 49 after for 768/128. Whats really funny is my DSL actually runs ar 95k and my cable ran mostly around 80k so I get a speed upgrade too. I do get disconnected but I am moving my modem because the fujitsu has problems in closets I hear where it cant get good ventilation.

Not sure about their business accounts, but Verizon's residential dsl packages starting at 29-39 a month are great. Fast reliable downloads, no disconnects. I usually retain the same ip for days at a time, despite massive downloads from 3 pcs and multiplayer gaming. Back in the days when i didn't have a router, i even had multiple ips with 2-3 pcs dialing in at the same time.

In my years of having dsl in nyc, verizon remains the absolute best choice. Plus, since i don't watch tv, i have no need for cable.

well.. considering they are running a business off the line, don't you think they should be using a business plan?
Guess they don't really care about their business that much, running it off a cheaper line with less guarantees.
