Eligible for Verizon's new every 2 and have no idea what to get or if I should even get anything?

Currently have a Samsung Convoy. It works great, no problems.

I barely used my phone when I was driving to work and now that I work from home, i never use it unless I am out on my days off, and even then it really doesn't get used.

I don't even get cell signal here at the house.

I have no use for a smartphone, especially without signal. I also don't want to pay out the ass for data plans which i'll never use. I don't text either.

The basic phones just seem to get fewer and fewer too.

I wonder if I should just switch to a prepaid phone or something? Can I go to a prepaid or pay as you go plan using my current hone?

Why are you on Verizon and not PagePlus?

You get no signal at home? What about other carriers?

no signal with AT&T either

not sure about others but if the big 2 don't have coverage here then I doubt any of the smaller companies will work any better.

No, you can use some Verizon phones (non-smart, off contract for awhile, etc) on Pageplus. Also, if you have decent internet at home, you could always pick up one of teir Network Extenders, doesn't save any minutes but does give you coverage through your internet connection (not wifi, femtocell tech). I paid $100 for ours and it's well worth it.

aren't those extenders only useful for bringing service from outside to inside? meaning if you don't have service outside the house, then it won't make a bit of difference. I don't get signal outside either, so i don't think it would help at all.

We got one at my last job because signal was very poor inside. Wasn't much better outside but at least you could get a signal. It did help there.

Came here to suggest Page Plus - either go traditional prepaid or go for one of the cheap monthly plans ($30 plan is probably less than you're paying now, but the $12 plan might even work if your usage is low enough).

No, a femtocell creates a cell tower and uses your Internet connction to transmit the data. It is not a 'repeater'.

But I totally agree with a lot of the posters. If you have no use for a smart device, then get off the traditional carriers. Heck, there's even some prepaid guys out there that will let you dip your toes in smartphone water and still get unlimited text and talk for under $50/mo.

I'm paying like $45 a month now for 400 minutes and I can't remember the last time I used more than say 30 minutes in a month

You would be perfect for PagePlus's $80 plan. You pay $80 a year for 2000 minutes. You can buy the minutes from callingmart.com. They have discount codes too making it like $75. You can bring your verizon phone too, if its not a prepaid phone.

But if you don't get signal at home, time to find a new provider? I don't think you can use a network extender on prepaid?

I had trouble with my old Verizon phone on Pageplus when I was at home with my extender.

The extender's are network specific--AT&T has one, VZW has one, I believe Sprint does. T-Mo knows how awesome their coverage is so they don't need one :awe:

T-mobile coverage map shows no service at my house.
AT&T shows "good" coverage but my sister had AT&T and she could not get signal here
Verizon shows coverage but I get absolutely no service here
Sprint shows "fair" coverage but don't know anyone that has sprint to test.
MetroPCS shows Extended Home Area service only. Don't know anyone with MetroPCS

I was looking over my voice usage with Verizon and in the last 6 months, I used at most 24 minutes in 1 month. Most months were less than 10 minutes (I think the highest being 8).

If you don't use it at home, then I would go prepaid with the cheapest plan allotment you can. $75/yr doesn't sound terrible. Id probably just go with that.

I would use it more often, for long distance, if I got signal.

apparently my contract is in effect until may 18th so i have a few months to go before i can change

If you had Verizon coverage at your house prior to getting a smartphone, then go buy a Motorola E815 flip phone for $25, put it on PagePlus, and you'll probably get great reception at home again ..... $80 card lasts a year, and would probably suit you just fine. Refill once a year....

I don't have a smartphone now, it's a Samsung Convoy which is a basic flip phone. I think I still have a E815 somewhere though.

I'm thinking about just doing the 100 minutes every 3 months, since in the last 6 months I used my phones for less than 100 minutes.

$40 a year.
