Verizon Netowork Interface Device...

I just closed on my new house and had Verizon setup local phone service. I'm not getting a dial tone and their tech-support is telling me everything is fine on their end. They suggested I take a look at NID outside. Well, I have no problem playing with it, but not sure what to look for..... any ideas / suggestions??

there should be a jack in the NID. hook a phone up to the jack to see if you get a dialtone. If you do, then the inside wiring may not be hooked up properly.

Right....I just found that on the Verizon site... but that's about it in terms of technical support. Are there any detailed diagrams out there... ??

Shouldn't need any detailed diagrams. You should be able to open half of the NID with a flat-bladed screw driver. Inside you will see a jack for each phone line you have active. You can plug a phone directly into this jack. If you get a dial tone, then the problem is with the wiring inside your house. If you do not, then the problem is Verizon's and you need to tell them you have no dial tone at the NID and they will have to come out to investigate.

If you have dial tone, check to make sure the wiring from the house is connected to the jack in the NID. If not, you shoud be able to make the connections yourself (pretty straightforward, just match the colors). If the connections are good there, then the problem is somewhere internal in your house.

Thanks Cerebus. There are actually 2 NID devices at my house... not really sure why. I bought the model house, but I know they never had phone service there before and it was sold as (mostly) new.
