Saw this but can't find the article. Verizon has lowered it's tiers by $10. They aren't doing it automatically. You have to go out the the myverizon site and select either to keep the plan you have and lower it by $10, or for the same price will go up to the next tier.

If you have company discounts, you will need to keep an eye on it and contact them if it doesn't get updated to the new plan because when you apply the change it doesn't show it so it actually (for me) showed a higher price.

and yea verizon blah blah, but i get it cheaper through work and it really is the only 'good availability' in my area.

we switched to verizon in november, from US Cellular. the promos were decent then and we got a lot of credit for porting our numbers.

my girlfriend called in yesterday and the rep said we were already on those data tiers/pricing, but she claims to have removed the device fees to the tune of $40/month

we will see when the bill comes.

i have a work discount, but...its $4. nice, but not exactly exciting.

What they did was change plans data limits, so the 2gb plan went to 3gb, 1 went to 2 and so on. So cheaper plans just they kept you in the same data tier.

Right but you can go lower your plan back to what it was before the change and save $10.

Example:

We had 3GB per month shared.
New plan offers 4GB per month for same price.

Actually you can do even better than that. I was bumped from 2GB to 3GB months ago and my bill stayed the same. Now I can keep 3GB and still save $10, or I can lower it to 2GB and save almost $20 (which is what I ended up doing since I haven't hit the cap in a long time).

This is a different promotion from the one a few months ago where they bumped data allowances. You have to actually go in and "change" your plan though, even if you are keeping the same data allowance. Your new monthly bill amount should be lower.

Edit: Actually I think we're saying the same thing. Anyway, point is: People shouldn't get this confused with the deal from months ago.

I followed up on this and it did account for my discount when the next bill came around (which is 27% but only off the data plan).

I would much prefer that they followed ATT and T-Mobile and allowed rollover of unused data bytes.

Although, now that I look closer, I see that we have some kind of 1GB promotional data thing that expires 9/16. We hardly use any data at all. I could drop from 1GB per month to 1/2GB per month with the bonus 1GB as a cushion and save $11 per month. I should do that I guess.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I am pretty clueless when it comes to all things phones. My wife and I both "edged up" and it worked out well for us but when we're clear of that, I really want to rethink our phones. We're at about $125 total per month now and I'd really like to cut that. But most importantly, I don't want to go to inferior coverage. We're in that age group where it's all just confusing.

Why are you losing your discount? You shouldn't, it just doesn't show up in your checkout. When you get your next bill it will be there.

I went ahead and cut our data to 1/2GB to go into affect on our next billing. So, I will see what happens then.

I don't know what the promotional additional 1GB shared per month is all about exactly. I'll have to poke around at the Verizon site and see if I can find out. I'm wondering myself now.

Edit: Found it pretty quick. It went into effect when I edged up my phone.

Prepaid is where we'll probably end up. I'll probably pay off the balance on our phones or get closer to it first before we make the switch. Of course our phones will be pretty ancient by then and I'm not certain I can even transfer them over... But who knows where increased competition will take Verizon in the future?
