I have Verizon for local, regional and long distance. They are advertising their "Verizon Freedom Essentials" plan whaich has unlimited minutes for a total of $53.83 per month which includes all taxes and fees.

Can someone who has an unlimited plan with them tell me, can I access a list of who I have called on the website, or does it just have the cost? Currently I can download my bill in a variety of formats with all calls listed, but I have a per-minute plan which I want to change because it costs too much.

I just cancelled my Verizon land line and signed up for Comcast. Much cheaper for comparable service.

No, you can't. I had their "Freedom" package, for when I was calling my then-fiancee up in Canada. Abused the hell out of it, something like 2000+ minutes a month (we talked everyday). When it came time for me to move up here, we wanted records to show Canadian Immigration that we had indeed been in touch a lot, and were not lying about our relationship. Verizon claimed that since the service is "unlimited", that they do not keep records of how much time you've used, or who you've called or been called by. It's BS, as they obviously have such records, but just won't give them to you.

Perhaps things have changed, but I ended up switching to Vonage for half the cost, got the same service, plus they keep track of all your calls.

Oh, Vonage also gave me a virtual number in the city my wife lived in, so she could call me without paying long-distance/international fees. Verizon doesn't do that.

Wow, that stinks for you. That is one situation where they would definately come in handy. It is BS, because I was thinking that they have the records for law enforcement use and things like that. They probably hide them so you cannot compare plans based on minute usage. How long ago was this?

Umm...I switched to Vonage in April or May of 2005, so it has been a while. Perhaps they've changed their policy, but I called and talked to supervisors, I emailed and wrote letters, I talked to the local office, and I was told that they did not have such records.
