99% of the country wont have LTE anytime soon, it makes sense having it not be LTE

where i live i doubt ill have LTE any time this decade,

Well my city is an LTE market now, so of course I would like to be LTE capable. The motorola xoom tablet announced at CES will be 3G but upgradable to 4G later this year. it would have been nice if the iphone was like that to. I believe LTE is in 38 cities currently. I have no doubt many more are to come in the not so distant future. Looks like it will be an LTE Android duel core phone for me then.

This is really awful timing for me. I'm due for an upgrade but im going to be kicking myself if a world phone version comes out in july. I think i would rather do a one year contract, although that would put me in a similar position next year.

Are they going to force you into a two year contract on this?
Or are we going to have the option of doing one?

I think it would be more GSM/LTE.

That doesn't make sense. I think going forward it makes more sense for Apple to create a dual GSM/CDMA phone with LTE. Keep in mind Qualcomm makes a single chip that is capable of GSM or CDMA. It's not that farfetched to think they will create one that also combines LTE to the mix.

While a chip capable of GSM/CDMA/LTE will likely be more expensive than having a GSM/LTE chip or a CDMA/LTE chip, it does streamline Apple's productions into a single product and with the huge emphasis on engineering things down to the last cubic micrometer of space and the premium priced iPhones, the added cost is likely not a roadblock. It might even be made up by a savings in having a phone that doesn't need to be manufactured specifically for GSM networks or CDMA networks.

Verizon must have paid some serious money to get Apple to create a whole new production line just to make CDMA iPhones.

Same phone, different radio. Probably not a huge changeup on the production floor.

I think that'd be the best arrangement - one chip to rule them all. Then you don't have to worry about switching carriers, and T-Mobile and Sprint could jump in the game properly. Canada has like 6 carriers already - it took us years to get 2 lol. Plus then, any phone you get is a worldphone for traveling.

The biggest news is that the iPhone is no longer exclusive to any carrier in the US now, we'll see the iPhone on Sprint, TMobile & Metro PCS within a year I suspect....

I think more T-Mobile than Sprint. But we knew this was coming because of the 5 year exclusivity deal.

Apple is not liking how Android is selling like crazy, I say that is a big part of the reason if not the only reason. It's not 2007 anymore when the iphone was the only hot smart phone on the block, Apple still has major pull but I don't think it is quite as strong as it was before Android took off.

If the radio was the only thing that changed and they can use the same parts for the rest of the phone all they need ns a 2nd radio install cell, its a simple Y in the production line

With the iPhone 4 on Verizon will the "tethering" feature be included with the data plan or will it cost extra?

Extra 20 bucks a month to tether. I had it for a few months with my droid incredible before cancelling and rerooting my phone. Now I just use wireless tether for root. :D

my dillema is that i already own a 32gb iPod Touch, and with the new iPhone ... do i keep or sell it?

i'll probably keep it because I use it daily on the way to work, and it won't waste battery on the iphone.

If you have an iPod Touch and an iPhone4, sell the iPod Touch. At least thats what I would do. The iPhone4 has excellent battery life that I think most people can live with.

Have you used the IP4 on a regular basis ??
There is no lag on the IP4.
Even the 3GS has no lag.
Its more about the OS than anything.
The OG Droid doesn't have lag...provided you're rooted, with a custom kernel, and Bugless Beast.

Yes it does, it might not be noticeable to you but it's there. I've tried every custom kernel there is. UD 2.5 + Chevy 1.2ghz is the fastest combo I've found. My D1 still shows signs of lag though. Lack of GPU acceleration cannot be compensated for with a custom kernel that's heavily OC'ed.

I'm going to wait until the iPhone 5 comes out. I just can't get into a phone more than halfway through it's life cycle. Particularly with VZW cutting out yearly upgrades. If I'm on board for two years then I want the newest possible phone.

Don't drop it?

This is a lovely sentiment, I'm sure you'll back it up with something equally clever like "lolz its a $700 mini computer y wouod u drop it DUH!", but the fact is, cell phones are portable, handheld devices, that occasionally get dropped. Many cell phones can handle being dropped without breaking. Some cell phones - such as those with giant glass panes on both the front & back - are more prone to break in such a situation. That attribute is a negative for a lot of people, making a condescending, dismissive attitude toward the issue misplaced.

I wonder if the resale value of used CDMA iPhone4 will be much as the GSM one. Will people in other countries using CDMA be able to use it?

I will likely switch to AT&T once my contract with T-mobile is up so the more AT&T iPhone people that move to Verizon the better.

People concerned about it buy a case.

i want verizon iphone too and am eligible for an upgrade this month but its almost time for iphone 5. i wonder if verizon will get it the same time as att. in my city we already have verizon 4g and they just showed a bunch of dual core android phones. it would be sort of hard to go with iphone 4

i wish all companies would do that and drop the subsidized phone nonsense. they would probably sell more phone because they would create a hobbyist or collector industy as with pc's. right now if you buy a phone outright they totally jack you

I still stand by what I said before, we might see a slight bump of people going to Verizon next month but we won't see the real implications of the Verizon jump until 5 comes out later this year. People know it's the same time of year a new iPhone comes out and I see more people waiting for it since it's not that far away.

Same here. I'm not buying into something that is mid-cycle when my Droid is holding up well.
