HTC Trophy officially set to launch on Verizon May 26th
By Tim Stevens posted May 19th 2011 10:24AM

"Soon" just got a lot more explicit: May 26th. That's when the HTC Trophy arrives on Verizon Wireless, finally bringing some Windows Phone to the carrier and setting up for what will be a very busy day. Do you want some dual-core hotness in the Droid X2? Maybe some LTE lovin' with Netflix in the form of the LG Revolution? Decisions, decisions, but those who go the way of Microsoft will find themselves touching a 3.8-inch WVGA display powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 16GB of onboard storage. It's $149.99 after the requisite contract fuss and mail-in rebate, small price for a phone that's been officially deemed ready.

Not sure what the hold up was, other than sour grapes over the Kin debacle (which was as much their fault as Microsoft's, if not more), but hey, this has t be good news for MS, anyway.

Now that that one's out of the way, lets see some new hardware, eh?

I really like the UI of WP7, but their app library needs to grow a little more, and Microsoft needs to add some more features before I seriously consider it. Although, finally getting onto Verizon is a step in the right direction.

Have you seen the feature list for the Mango update? Multitasking, turn-by-turn nav, IE9, on-device SmartDJ, Office online/SkyBox integration, native Twitter, MSN Messenger, and Facebook Chat support, plus tons of additions to the SDK which should help with your first issue.

Well I've got the Charge now, so my next phone would have to be 4G capable (it's crazy fast and I'm spoiled by it already, no going back). Is there any mention of when Microsoft estimates when they'll ship 4G equipped phones?

Probably won't see new hardware until the Mango time-frame, which would make sense considering they're adding support for a few hardware level objects. I don't think it'll be a huge increase though - the bigger hardware wave we should anticipate is the Nokia devices, because I believe it will require all other manufacturers to step their game up.

Well, are they even capable of upping the hardware at this point in time since MS has strict standards they need to abide by? Also, I'm really, really tempted to get this phone, but I know I want the latest and greatest processor/GPU combo. I can't help that stupid feeling and I wish I could just buy this, but I already convinced myself it's old and pointless to purchase. :(

They released the next set of hardware specs, so the next wave will be faster processors - but think G2 or Thunderbolt faster, not dual core.

Its been said before, but WP7 is written very efficiently - my Venue Pro runs better than my Vibrant, despite the slower hardware.

Ok, let's understand something about phone hardware. It's an absolute WASTE if the software cannot take advantage of it correctly. Even then, most of the newer stuff isn't as efficient as something that's a generation older in "speed." Even then, while there are subtle differences in the WP7 phones, and if you run a benchmark app you can see it, the performance of them is close enough you wouldn't be able to play when playing a game.

WP7 is the only thing that would tempt me away from WebOS.. But not until the Mango update hits and adds multi-tasking, a feature I frankly can't do without.

I didn't see the new specs. I'd be ok with the new hardware as long as it had a few features from iPhone/Android devices. I don't really want to get into what, but I'm sure it will regardless.

Also, I read that a WP7 device runs a lot quicker and just overall better than an Andriod phone and it's on par with iOS. I had to test it out so I went to an AT&T store in my area to try one, and wow, I loved how smooth it felt. I definitely want more features baked into the software, but of course, that is coming with Mango. I just don't know if I should purchase the Trophy and then sell it or get an Android device and wait till then.

I knew that about the software/hardware. It's just I can't break myself out of that stupid feeling that I don't have the latest hardware or the newest thing. I mean I've been slowly growing out of it, but it's been baked into me. However, after reading so many reviews and what not on the newest devices with dual core and LTE, I definitely want to wait a couple months till the hardware is a lot more battery efficient.

Also, I can't help but feel like I'm in the past without a front facing camera and NFC... but to be honest with you, I doubt I would ever use them so honestly I don't even care about those anymore after writing that sentence. I may have to see this Trophy in person, and then I will proceed to decide.

I just don't know if I can live without free navigation and the voice features that Android offers.

I switched from the Evo 4g to the HD7. Despite being nearly the exact same hardware (1st gen Snapdragon, ~512mb memory, 800x480 display), the HD7 feels dramatically faster. It really does feel like a whole different class of device. Everything runs at a silky smooth framerate and responds instantly.

Don't let perceived lack of hardware power dissuade you from WP7. It feels faster than any Android device I've tried.

Mango is adding navigation. WP7 has voice control.

Wait, it currently has voice control? What kind of control? Is it as indepth as Google's offering?

I know that it is adding navi, but that's not for another 3-5 months. I just love the combination of.. "Navigate to home." Navi loads and I'm on my way.
